New Post-op Tip of The Day

I've been seeing a lot of posts about not being able to get your protein in as new post-ops. Well first of all, take a deep breath and realize that you are healing and it will take a few weeks before you're able to get your 60-80 ozs of protein in. A few things that helped me was making my protein shakes only 2-4 ozs at a time and sipping those every 2 hrs., mixing a protein bullet with water or adding protein powder to my broth, sf crystal light, low carb, low sugar yogurt or sf pudding. I would use unflavored Unjury for some of these recipes or some of my favorite protein powders in the others. I also used light vanilla soy milk in order to pump up the protein content . This is a good idea since a lot of post-ops are lactose intolerant.

The main thing to remember is to get your water in and add your protein volume as you can. I started playing mind tricks like taking a sip every 3 minutes or every time there is a commercial. Whatever it takes just do it. WLS patients are very easy to get dehydrated and if you're sweating then even more reason to be drinking. Sip and walk and be patient.
