If you didn't need a reason to drink protein shakes, consider....

Alright - I think I may have discovered what's going on with me and my spells.  The spells were me sweating, fatigued, dizzy and just all out of sorts.  Folk would tell me to keep candy with me to combat these - thinking it was hypoglycemia - but I discovered sugar doesn't bring me out of them.  PROTEIN does.  If I drink half a protein shake, eat some yogurt or meat and give it about 5 min, I come out of it.

What would cause such a thing, Mack, you say?  LOL.  I DID.  See - I sat and traced back what I have changed - and I stopped drinking a protein shake EVERY morning.  I started only EATING everyday in most cases.  Yea I was getting in 40-60g of protein through food, but I used to do 80-100 with the shake included.  I spent some time researching and found that low PROTEIN symptoms look like low blood sugar.  Ain't that a kick in the pants?

So - my smart ass was deleting the shake to use the calories for food and jacked myself smooth up.  Starting YESTERDAY - I will be having a MANDATORY half shake every morning for 16g of protein to start the day - and then the rest of my daily intake.

Newbies - take note!!!  You think after you finish losing you can move on to being 'normal' and stop your supplementation - NOT.  Your body is forever different and there are things you have to do FOREVER to keep it together.  Unless you like the dizzy, sweating, disoriented look about you - be sure you watch your protein intake!!  Vets - same warning.  I know not everybody did shakes and supplements, so your body learned how to 'run' with out it - but if you did always do them then stop or cut way back - watch out and keep this in mind if you start feeling this way.

Have a happy Sunday yall - just thought I would share - maybe somebody out there will save themselves so grief.

Recently I traveled forgetting my protein shakes.  I use 100% soy and low carb so I could not pick it up just anywhere.  I also was not always making my protein goal.

After about six days I had the same symptoms.  This was the only change so I knew exactly what it was.  I'm back on at least 25g supplements a day and carry bars in case I go too long between meals.

I called my Surgeon last summer to complain about something (forgot what) anyway he warned me not to stop my shakes either.  Told me to be sure to either drink a shake or protein shot daily so I went back to adding protein to my smoothies or downing  a protein shot every day. Lawd I thought being so far out from surgery I was done but...nope I guess we're in it for the long run.

Glad to see you figured out what was causing your spells.  Its funny you wrote about this today, my band is so tight in the mornings that for the past year and a half I can only do CIB, or Slim Fast Optima (with the higher proten) till midday.  Well, I got lazy and started skipping those drinks andd trying to only do coffee in the AM.  No wonder I was feeling like a hot mess the past couple of weeks.

Once again thanks Mack.

Seriously I was really freaking out - I thought I was really having a problem till my mom (of all people) talked me through it and we came to that conclusion.
