Interracial Relationships

Interestingly, I had dinner with a High School classmate (a guy) who is African American. He was married to a black woman, and they divorced 8 years ago. He said he divorced her because he was no longer attracted to her as she gained a bunch of weight, he started messing around and they divorced. Well, he has been engaged to an Iranian woman for almost 2 years. I knew about the engagement and asked so, 'when is the wedding'. He stated, there will probably never be one. Both of them are comfortable being committed to each other and engaged - he said she wanted the 'big ring' and he gave it to her and he thinks that if they do get married they will probably not stay married... Now that is another topic.
Anyhow, I have never dated anyone outside of my race but, I did ask him what was the difference if any. He stated, the biggest issue they have is cultural. In the AA culture, mothers are respected. In her culture, you basically talk to your parents in any way that you want - including comments like 'shut up', 'don't talk to me' and basically giving them a piece of your mind.
Most AA women will not be talked to that way especially by a foreigner. He stated that this has been a major issue in his relationship and he had to really educate his fiance about the do's and don'ts of dealing with black folks.
I had never heard that before. Perhaps anyone who is interested in interacial dating should take a culture class so that you or he/she is not embarrased.
He said that her parents absolutely love him as he treats them the way he would treat his mother i.e. with admiration and respect. Although she treats her parents with disrespect and disdain.
