Interracial Relationships

Since I've done so much soal searching with my weight issues, nothing is off limits.  My dear sister/friend is married to a White Man and I want to bring this to the board to gain more understanding.

Why do so many of us Black Women have such a problem when we see a Black Man with a White Woman (or a Black Woman with a White Man)?   Why do we stare, glare, make faces, actafool??  WHY do we disrespect?

And why do we tend to call them White "Girls" no matter the woman's age - how would we feel if they called us Black "Girls"??  (((I know some fists would fly on this board alone being called "girl".)))

All relationships have their difficulties, in Interracial Relationships it seems most of the difficulties they encounter are based on the difference of their skin color, the judgemental opinions of others and plain-ole-RACISM!!!  NOTHING else!

They've chosen their life together thru thick & thin, why can't we honestly be happy for them both - they've found someone to love - isn't that what makes the world go round??   Plus, don't we have our own man/woman?? What do we care who someone else is lovin?!?!  Like that song from back-in-the-day, "What's your man got to do with me?!?!"

By the looks of BAF, nothing is off limits.

It's a sad FACT in our society that IS going on, why not address it????  Maybe some of us would STOP being so judgmental and love people for who they are - not for how dark their tan is or is not.

Hello new me !!!

I think you make alot of valid points......what exactly is the big deal ???

The same can be said for lesbian/gay relationships as far as the
stares, glares and gestures.

Maybe its cause honestly when we see these otherwise non-connected folks together...it makes us take a more introspective look at ourselves to see how or why we dont measure up.  What does Jane have that I dont have ???   You know the deal.  But thats like saying all apples should only be with apples.  Or all grapes can only coexist harmonioulsy together with other grapes.

As for me I have found true beauty in appreciating a mixed fruit basket...give me a little of this and little of that.  Something sweet with something sour,  something smooth skinned with something rugged on the outside. It makes for a delightful  experience to all our senses.

Often its not about what a couple looks like physically that brings them together,  its about what they share mentally, emotionally,  intellectually,  spiritually and intimately that keeps them bound together.  And thats some wisdom for all the ignorant folk that care to think otherwise. Being a good wife or partner dosent have anything to do with what Jane looks like or the color of her hair.

I would like to think that mature folks can appreciate a good catch when they see one.  Outside of the superficial.  And  I would like to hope that people would  explore outside their race, religion culture,  economic background, education level, geographical area and region and even their sexuality  if they should be so bold to find the " one "

You never know what your missing til you open up and explore.  Love is definately where you find it.

Great post  Maxine......

I have a nephew and two nieces that are black and white, I also have another niece that is half mexican, no not just hispanic, Mexican.  I used to be one of those that would hate on a black guy if he was with someone of another race.  USED TO.

Why because I had bad epxeriences with both of my in-laws who were of  a different race, they did my siblings wrong and for that I started having ill feelings toward all based upon my own experiences and I didn't have those feelings prior to having delt with them, they put me on that level.

Now, I said that to say that I no longer feel that way at all.  I realized that what another persons preference is, is none of my business and they may be very happy and I hate to hear women say "that's why I can't find a man."  After I got married I really realized that the real problem was me.  I just wasn't happy seeing a black man dating outside of his race  because I didn't have a man.  Now I am less ignorant and understand that love truely sees no color, like I have heard soo many times.

My husband is hispanic, he is from Panama and after being with him I realize how damn ignorant I was for soo long I have learned so much from him and we want to make sure that our kids know that racism is wrong.  My son told me a few months ago that he didn't like black girls because of the way they act (he's only 8)and I can't be mad at him for that, but I do want him to get to know who the person is on the inside regarless of their color and not cross them off the list automatically or think that they're better because they're not black.

Thanks for posting this topic.
