This question is directed to those in management *****ad resumes or are good at writing them. What is the better format, bullets or brief paragraphs.?

Depends on the job you are applying for and how your skills/previous experience ties in.

If you are crossing fields/positions, you want a skill based resume - so more bullets than paragraphs

Same field/similar positions - paragraphs work better.

What are you shooting for?

Same field  and position, just a different location. I am a schoool social worker and the company that my job contracts with is not renewing the contract so in six weeks I will be jobless. I want to continue to be a school social worker but just in another school.

If that's been your field for a while, you'll want to start with a summary of your skills, then have paragraph entries for your experience.

Give me your email addy on the BL - I will shoot you mine so you can see what I am talking about.

I used to be in management and I do write resumés from time to time.  I tend to bullet qualifications and/or skills and brief paragraphs for job duties.  Sometimes all an employer wants is a one page resumé so it really depends upon the job being applied for and you have to choose between bullets or brief paragraphs.

Carol,

How is the search going?  You know, maybe i'm silly / stupid, but when i read this, i'm thinking "re-sume" not "re-su-may".  LOL

Hey I have not really started seriously looking yet. I am still trying to get my resume all together. But I have gotten some good help and feedback today so I'm well on my way to finishing it up. I just want to have that together so that when I do find a job/jobs that interest me I can just send or upload the resume right away.

Bullets are preferred.

Easier to recognize the skills needed.

Bullets are preferable.  EXCEPT if you are uploading to a site - most large companies will scan resumes.  These scanners can't pick up on formatting - you will need to save that version in text/ANSCI format and use astericks.

If extensive and relevant experience, you can do 2 pages.

Qualifications for answering: MBA & MHRM (master of HR Management) though I work in Benefits now, I don't see resumes.  This is what they stressed in my grad & undergrad business writing classes.  I have 2 versions of my resume.
I have an @$$h*le, therefore I have an opinion. or two... or forty.
