The sugar in ice cream may make you dump horribly so please be careful ok Ma .....if you can try to avoid sweets during your first post-op year so you can really take advantage of the Honeymoon phase.
Hey thurr,
no darts and daggers from me, just my experience with icecream after surgery
.
I am a Vewbie, a vet and a newbie due to having surgery twice. I underwent a revision conversion surgery 2 months ago. I had a lapband, but had to have it removed and converted to the sleeve. I initially lost weight very fast with the band, I was one of the lucky ones. I dropped from 247 to 205 in 3 months and then MS struck and my world was turned upside down. I was made to get unfilled due to the steroids for a year. I resumed fills and all hell broke loose. I say all of that to say that had I continued on the path that got me to 205 then I probably wouldn't have had future issues.
After I began to have issues with the band, I quickly learned that soft foods would go down. Nothing else would.
Ice cream was my drug of choice, and with a combination of not having a fill, gaining weight from steroids, and MS meds, My weight ballooned up to 282 lbs..40 lbs higher than my original highest weight
.
I was fortunate because revisions are very risky, infact mine became so risky during surgery that I could only be converted to the sleeve instead of the DS as planned. There are also no gurantees with revisions. Weight loss could be much slower than with the original surgery and some do not lose at all. God however blessed me and I am losing as quickly as I did with my first surgery. I learned my lesson and am doing everything instructed by my surgeon because this second go round was twice as rough due to further health issues and having an open surgery.
My advise is to leave ice cream out of the equasion, and use your tool to it's full capacity ESPECIALLY during your honeymoon phase. Take it from one of the few on this board who have had a revision that it is not a fun experience.
God bless you on your journey, you will do well. Once you have your tool in place it will be easier to fight the temptation. You may even find that your cravings and tastebuds have changed.

I've had ice cream in my diet since about 6 months post op. I don't eat a lot I eat the SF icre creams as well as the regular (single serving hagen Daz) I eat that in 3 servings I normally add cool whip fresh fruit and SF choclate syrup.

Ummm - hi! I'm #1 Mack - known around these parts as the local, neighborhood hard ass. This isn't going to be pretty - so get ready.
Since you have made the decision to risk your LIFE by having your internal GUTS CUT and REROUTED, perhaps taking time to reflect on what put you there and IF you are willing to GIVE IT UP would be in order?
I felt similarly about sodas - I used to down a 2 liter a DAY - doc told me NEVER AGAIN and I said 'aiight - for the chance to be HEALTHY and FIT - soda is NOT in my vocabulary!'
Ice cream? HELL NO Sugar free popscles - ALL DAY - get the creamy ones and fake yourself out. But Ice cream, even sugar free is setting your mental landscape to mow through other shiot that will have you BACK in the high 200s and wonder 'What happened?'
Know this - WLS is about SACRIFICE - you need it because you have been giving into and living a life of EXCESS. The surgery gives you the tool and allows you to have the willpower to CHOOSE instead of being DRIVEN to eat things. Get on the wrong track and you **** yourself up from jump.
My advice - buy the SF popscicles and invest in a window AC unit if you feel that hot - but DON'T play with the tool!
