Thank y'all...

We'll see after my surgery.... hell, I hate pain... I can see if I find some protein I like, I'ma roll w/ that 2xs a day.

I do have the mashed pot question - I'm just asking why no, b/c I've seen it on several diets for the pureed stage.  I am a potato eater, and a picky, but this extra bytch on my back most go.

I'm just asking b/c I DO NOT know and want to know.

Hola. Holla.

Okay Im going to try and give you an answer don't be getting all sensitive on me okay...lol

In my 3rd month I ate baked potatoes from Wendy's...would sometimes put chili on it..reminded me of chili fries...the thing is you shouldn't put butter sour cream and all that extra stuff on it. If you are going to eat potatoes do it only maybe once a week and make sure you are putting a bunch of fatty stuff on them

Its on my list from my dr. too and he reinterated it at my last appt. I think they mean the further out you go lay off of it. You need to focus on protein first and less carbs. And with your pouch being so small the protein is generally going to fill you up.

Listen this surgery is no joke. Its HARD you have to be willing to come and bring your A game.

Really it is best to follow what your doctor or nut says. Mashed potatoes were on my list as well. At that point (pureed) you aren't consuming very many calories anyway so its no big deal. Today though, mashed potatoes are not something that I eat.

I eat the same things now that I did at 2m out.
baked chicken.  If I get the itch for fried I do shake & bake
fish.  I love fish and it has like 20+g of protein.
Shredded wheat cereal or oatmeal.  This keeps me regular, non of the other stuff(laxatives, milk of magnesia, Dulcalax worked)
Cream of wheat
eggs
ground turkey taco salad(just meat and beans and cheese)
refried beans
Chili
Tuna with pork rinds( I love my rinds)
String cheese
For veggies I do brocoli, cauliflower or spinach
I just started doing fruit even though I was cleared for them at 2m.  I love strawberries.  I like apples with peanut butter.  I do bananas in my protein shakes.

Plain water still upsets my pouch so I live on Crystal Light, Hawaiian Punch, Lipton ice teas
For the most part, my diet is the same stuff over and over.  I spice it up with sunflower seeds, or 90 cal granola bar if I really crave chocolate.  My last chocolate gave me a dumping so bad I can't even go down the cereal aisle without cringing. My diet is what it is.  Find something that works for you and stick with it.

No problem.  I forgot to add my vitamins.
5am iron and 5 oz of protein( 26g protein)
5:30-7:00 water
7am calcium & magnesum w/ 5oz of protein(26g protein)
9:00 multi/b12/ bcomplex/biotin more water
1:00 mulit/ biotin
6:00 calcium & magnesium
9:00 iron

I take a lot of iron because I was anemic before surgery and have been most of my life. To remember my vitamins, I place them in front of my computer at home and at work.  take whatever vits your dr recommends.  And put them in a painfully obvious location so you won't forget.  Get your protein or lose all your hair, have ashy hangy skin and look like the walking dead.  I know, I have a cousin who never did any of those things and it shows.

Hi!

First lemme say, you can do this. I am 4 years out. I have lost over 100 lbs and maintained it thus far. I do not like to exercise. Early on, I did. I still do something, but not as faithfully as before. However, I am sooo grateful for the folks at Duke Univ. for the things I learned about eating. Some of the things I read that a NUT said, I wanna holler.
Be mindful, some NUT are just that nuts and have not been trained in WLS eating. Notice I said trained. They may be NUT hired by a bariatric surgeon. Completely different.

There are things you listed that I still do not eat today. Lub mac and cheese but I run into that stuff about every 3 months if that. I cant take too much pasta/bread/rice. They expand in my belly. Next thing I know, I feel awful. For me, chicken has to be wet and moist, in a sauce. Otherwise, it is too hard to go down. I do lub 2 fried chicken wings, a rare treat, but 2 is all I can do and nothing else.

I love going to Smoothie King. Went the other day and got a protein shake. I got the smallest size and it was my breakfast AND lunch. It was all I had for the day, until dinner. With the exception of water.
Fish is good but I can eat about only half a filet. Maybe a whole one but again, nothing with it. If I have a veggie, I can only eat half.

My point, I started out slow. I got to know my belly. I stop when I am full...when I start to feel bad/uncomfortable. I can tell when I am full.
Next, if I did no****ch my fook intake, especially PORTION SIZE, as I do, for certain, I would have regained weight by now. Yes, I gained 8 lbs recently. The devil has a helper at work with a bowl of candy, but I have left it alone. And I have lost 5 of those 8.

A potatoe...no. I do but it is a rare day. I cant eat but so much and it has no protein. To me, no benefit in it. Besides, again, it swells up in me.
You forget vitamins? Take them with you at all times. I have some in my purse. I keep some in the car and at home. As soon as I remember, I pop one in.

Here are some of the things taken directly from my Duke post-op diet. I still refer to it today:

Foods to Avoid

  • Bread (may tolerate if toasted)
  • Rice
  • Pasta (especially overcooked or large noodles)
  • Melted stringy cheese
  • Macaroni and cheese
  • Peanut butter

Recommended Food for Stage 3: Soft Foods

High-Protein Foods

  • Eggs (cooked with minimal fat)
  • Light/low-fat yogurt
  • Low-fat cottage cheese
  • Soft fish (baked, broiled, grilled)
  • Small or baby shrimp, scallops, crab
  • Tuna-fish (fat-free mayo is okay)
  • Tender cooked or ground poultry
  • Tender cooker or ground beef or pork
  • Bean and lentil dishes and soups
  • Fat-free refried beans
  • Low-fat luncheon meats (turkey, roast beef, sliced thin)
  • Shredded or soft low-fat cheeses
  • To****oy) mixed in soup or vegetables

Other Foods

  • Oatmeal, cream of wheat, grits (thinned)
  • Softened cold cereal
  • Cooked, soft vegetables
  • Soft fruits without skin or canned in natural juices
  • Crackers and pretzels chewed well
  • Potatoes
  • Low-fat soups
  • Very dry toast
  • Soft lettuce (green leaf or Boston bibb)

You need six to eight cups of fluid per day to avoid dehydration. You may need to carry a water bottle with you and sip on low/no calorie liquids throughout the day to get enough fluids.

A portion size is no larger than approximately the  palm of a hand for a non-WLS individual. Take it slow. Chew. Chew. Chew. Within 6 months, you should be able to eat about 2 tablespoons of one specific food. (Today at 4 years out, THIS IS TRUE for me. I max out at about 2 tablespoons. Exactly the portion I had for dinner today, but everyone is different.

Avoid steak, pork chops, ham, and other tough meats for the first few months. Meat is a great source of protein, but it needs to be soft and tender for you to digest it. Try a slow cooking method to make your meat tender, such as a crock-pot, boiling or cooking at a low temperature over a long period of time.

Limit high fat foods. These foods may make you feel nauseated. They are also high in calories and will slow down your weight loss. Try changing to a fat-free comparable product. If you don't like the fat-free product, try the light product, which usually has half the fat and calories of the regular product.

High-Fat Foods

  • Butter, margarine, oils
  • Sour cream
  • Cream cheese
  • Mayonnaise
  • Gravy
  • Fat back, bacon
  • Sausage
  • Whole milk
  • Salad dressing
  • Hard cheeses
  • Fried foods
  • Bologna, salami
  • Chips
  • Desserts

(4 Years out and I still do this!!!)
If you fill up your small gastric pouch with liquid, you won't have room for your food. Furthermore, the liquids may accelerate passage of the solid food out of the stomach and possibly cause some discomfort. If you need to, take only small sips of liquids while eating, but don’t drink large amounts during meals
.

Wish you well.
