Ok - I have avoided two other cans of whoop azz - guess this might as well be the post that gets me.... LOL!

There was a black owned beauty supply in my hood - i used to go there BUT - the attitude and service I got were SHIOT - ALL the time!!  They barely had stock and they weren't going to answer question #1 if you had one....... needless to say it's closed and I happliy shop at one of 3 others near me.

I would love to say I would join you on this - but for this and other observation and experience reasons - sorry - can't say that the better run businesses are not the ones winning out.

I totally feel you on this side too now. Don't get me wrong, I know what you're saying, but its sounds like ignorance, lack of customer service, lack of pure business savvy, etc... but, if you have 100 Beauty Supply stores in a big city and only 2 of them are black owned somethings wrong (red flaf) and 90% of the clientele is BLACK! And, I'm being conservative with those educated guess numbers. Lol! Sorry, who in the hell is the other freakn 10%??? LOL!! Somebody pleeez shut me up now! Prove me TOTALLY wrong! I wanna be wrong, but I'm NOT! I dunno girl. I'm frustrated with our community and I just want a lil more UNITY!

Hugs!

**Now see that didn't hurt nun did it?? We all can agree to disagree or uhhh...dunno. lol! Actually, I'm not disagreeing witcha. You have a valid point

Hmmm - where is the requirement that a business be owned by the same ethnicity that it serves?  Or that you would expect any of that ethnicity to be interested in owning one?

Is it reasonable to expect to see the same statistical displacement in every segment of consumerism?  Hmmmm - impossible, I would think.

I would tend to look at the origin of the product and the suppliers - all that hair weave is NOT coming from Africa!  Don't know about you - but I haven't seen any local sistas in Nigeria running around with Silky Yaky 1B ready to be fresh shaved off their head!!!

Therefore - the origin of the product and it's associated supply chain are more likely the true drivers.

just a theory.

Americans in general, black, white or otherwise aren't often prepared fiscally, mentally or emotionally to run a business.  We are often programmed from childhood to work for "da man."  Think about it--many of us are traumatized from the recent Wall Street fall out because we went to our job everyday and invested our money with those great American, reliable companies.

We aren't prepared to run and well our own business.  I watched my parents with a series of restaurants growing up and only the last few were really successful.  Owning your own business is so much more than just deciding to open up something and running with it.  It's time consuming--it overtakes your life; It's usually more expensive than you first thought and you have to be prepared.

If Obama wanted to spend money on something great to stimulate the economy it would be workshops, classes, etc. teaching people how to run a business--starting with their business called home first.  If they could get the churches, community centers, etc. involved--even better.

I know I'm not made (right now) for business ownership.  I like most people I know half-ass it at work--working 75% of the time...I would fail in business.  I'm not mentally let alone financially ready to make that commitment.

You know, I really like you some days - THIS is one of them.... LMAO!!!

I completely understand what you are saying.  My mother is FOREVER trying to get me to start a business with her - ummm - HEYL NAW!!!  I like working for a CORPORATION - with DEEP POCKETS so I know I will be paid - AND - I have insurance a 401K and that there is a PROCESS they have to follow to fire my azz!!!!  LOL - not just a quick decision!!!!

I would NEVER open my own business because i am not a risk taker nor do I care to have that kind of responsibility - but I will run one FOR somebody else ALL DAY!!!!

On a different note...these products that we buy are manufactured where?  India, China, etc.

They have the wholesale market locked down, so when African-Americans try to buy in bulk for their stores, they either won't sell at all to them or charge ridiculously high prices for the same products that are sold in the Asian owned stores.

So then...say we walk into Keisha's store.  She's selling 10inch Yaki for 16.99, but we know Ling-Ling sells it for 12.99, where do you think we're gonna go?
Life is not about making it through the storm....but learning how to dance in the rain.
