Newbie Question about excercise

Star out walking and doing strength training.  You need to build muscle after surgery so you can maintain muscle mass.  This will improve how proprtionately you loe weight as well.  I also have knee and joint issues and never thought I would run but I do it every day now.  Not for long periods but I do it.  Anything is possible!
