I have a question:

I was talking to a female friend and an interesting question came up:

Why do some black women (notice I said some) have no problem dogging each other out--whether behind the back (more commonly) or in the face?

I used to work in one of the customer service offices in the phone company.  The office was probably 70% female, most of our office was black and hispanic.   Now, we guys were treated pretty much like kings...always a kind word, lots of flirtation, basically decent treatment whether we deserved it or not.

But where the women were concerned?  Wow.  I used to often sit back and watch as they would smile in each other's faces, do that friend stuff then *BAM!* the moment the back was turned, the daggers would come out.   Or, if they didn't bother to do the friend thing, there was always the drama starting with my favorite phrase,"Oh, she think she's cute..."

So, my question is where is the love/sisterhood?  Why so much viciousness and cattiness?

What say you?

I'll be in the corner munching on popcorn  and awaiting answers.  I'm just curious.

i think it all boils down to how people react to competition or perceived competition.

men compete with other men. women compete with women.

with men, we carry it like this: you do you, imma do me, you'll get yours and i'll get mine. i'm cool with your success cuz imma definitely have mine. so lets all get it!!

women don' t carry it the same way.  with alot of women, it boils down to this: you gettin yours may prevent me from gettin mine. so i gotta get mines before you get yours or else i'm azz out. when the music stops, i aint gonna be me left with no where to sit (or no one to sit on).

maybe they believe the whole misleading 8 to 1 female to male ratio thing.

who knows.  if i understood women i'd rule the world.

How u feeling, Sam?

You have a point about the competition thing..especially where men are concerned, but I find it to be a different animal.  Most men, we see the competition, we deal with it and we move on.

Women, on the other hand, seem to take it in a different direction entirely.

Ur right, though..I'd rule the world, too.

I find it interesting that though a few ppl have view this already, the first to respond was a man.  While I agree with ur view, Sam, I'm interested in what women have to say about the subject.

Man - the answer to that question would get you the Nobel Prize from me!

That's the reason why I don't have very man close female friends - VERY few - I have been disappointed by many because of that very reason.

Now - do *I* do it?  I have in the past - in my younger and dumber days.  Luckily the place I work now doesn't have a lot of black females - actually only two other than me - so i don't have to deal with it.

I don't just have issues, I have subscriptions!  I'm saving on the newsstand price.......

I think it's the estrogen.

As for me, I will not deal in, partake in, or be a witness to the cattiness, backbiting, lies, or deceit of women (or men)  EVER again.  I have made a vow to shoot from the hip and to be brutally honest AT ALL TIMES.  I am having a party next weekend and the evite says....."leave your problems at home."  It will be a time of fellowship.....FOR REAL.
