OT Question: For the folks that believe the bible LITERALLY

My dad used to say Religion was good for children and old people...Keeping the little heathens in line for fear of hell and old people scared of hell being a reality, lol.

The crazy thing though is that homosexuality is not a sin, nor is heterosexuality.  It's the sexual act thats a sin, same as adultery, premarital sex, etc.

What are they going to do when they find out for sure that it's genetic?

I do think that many churches are going the progressive route and drawing in a different population.  Joel Osteen has cornered the market on this mentality as well as a few others including my own pastor Ed Young.  The fire and brimstone messages are just not effective on generations that have gotten away from church and are seeking a relationship with a loving God.

I personally believe that THEY know it is genetic but can't let the cat out of the bag because that would rock every religion around to it moral fiber bone! Folks won't know what to do...I really do believe that religion is the ONLY reason that secret is being kept

Now my jury is still out on Joelly don't care for what him and wifey had to say on Larry King the other day

How could it NOT be anything but genetic???  As if someone would choose a lifestyle that offers you eternal damnation let alone violation of every basic civil right...*smh*

It's more than just religious though.  If they were to put forth reality, it would once again require people to stop making excuses for their pathetic fear-mongering hate messages against someone not just like them.  We JUST got a black President who now the majority of pink people in America is quick to claim as half white.

You have to remember that even though Joel leads a progressive, uplifting type of Church he is still from a very Southern, very Baptist, bible-belt state.  I think that he does lead a lot of people to drink but

I also have enough sense to know that Family is a lot of different things for a lot of different people.  As I tell my own child--families are people that love each other, period.  They might be a mommy & a daddy, one mommy or one daddy, or even two mommies or two daddies...all that matters is that they love and care about each other and want the best for one another.

I just have real problems accepting that 2 people that love each other can't be together because marriage is "Adam & Eve, not Adam & Steve" but supposedly we are a country founded on a separation of church & state.  Religious doctrine has no place *period* in basic civil rights.

Now i have heard that when the woman is pregnant that the eggs are all females until they slpit. When they do sometime 1 out of 10 male will get more female genetics and more of the female brain cells. Which means they have a lot of femenin affects.

well some believe that the Y chromosome is a genetic "mutation" of the X chromosome..some believe that life when it first came about started out ALL female, asexual reproduction...but that the x chrome changed (deformation in a sense) into the Y...hence XY, the male

I'm saying in the womb the baby is a female for how ever many months before you call it a male.... I remember the doctor telling me that he really couldn't tell me the gender of my child because at 3 months the gender could change \o/

Hey Ro

first off, i don't proclaim to be a Bible scholar; however, i did go to sunday school (back in the day )  now from what i remember, when the Bible speaks of "man" it is "understood" that it is speaking of the woman too.  back in the day, the woman followed the man.  rules for man were also rules for the woman as well.

as far as the fish thing, we all going to hell...catfish ain't got no scales

not touching on any other subject...;)

(((((((((((((Shontay))))))))))))))

How is one suppose to know when speaking of man, when you are talking about the male or female? because  there are times when a woman is mentioned instead of saying mankind...like when they say a woman isn't suppose to be in the pulpit...I believe that was also considered an abomination.

See this is why I stopped reading the bible it is toooo confusing...lol

As you noted, Ro Ro, there are lots (and LOTS) of Old Testament laws that are no longer observed.  When Christ came, He came to save those who were under the Law (bound by it) and to fulfill the Law by being the perfect sacrifice for our sins.  That being said, those old laws no longer carry the same penalty for disobedience.
