Are my plans unrealistic?
I am scheduled for larascopic RNY gastric bypass surgery on June 11, 2009. I am anxious and very excited about life after surgery. Before I got my surgery date me and my girlfriends made plans to attend the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans on July 2-7, 2009. I think I can still go and have a great time (without the alcohol and great tasting food the N.O. has to offer), but a few of my friends are saying I should not go somewhere like that so soon after surgery because of the many temptations I will face. I don't think I should run from the temptation because these are challenges I will face for the rest of my life so why not bring it on. What do you guys think?
There are temptations around the corner from your house. I don't see what the big deal is, I would go. Great show of faith your friends have in you though *sarcastic* If I were you I'd be on gaurd, they'll probably be the ones trying to temp you then talk about you like a dog if you crack. Study the diet your NUT gives you and plan accordingly. NO isn't known for he healthiest cuisine, but you should be able to find baked or broiled fish on any menu. You can also just go to the market and pick up a yougurt, you'll be so newly post op you won't even care about food.
It is never too late to be what you might have been

girl - go on the trip if you want to! You know what your limitations are - FOLLOW them - trust me - you do NOT want to make yourself sick away from home.
Now - the test will be if your friends are REALLY friends and see if them mofos don't try to get you to 'try' this or that - then you might could be in some trouble!!!!

I haven't had my surgery yet, but I'm from New Orleans (moved in 2001). Only thing I would say is WATCH YOURSELF IN THE FRENCH QUARTER/CANAL STREET/IN THE DOME!!! If you're still tender, getting jostled may hurt some. I had a breast reduction one year on June 18th and my PS told me to avoid crowded places. .. so I sat by my momma an'em and went shopping.
BTW - I eat NONE of the food - too spicy and allergic to seafood... but after the surgery, I sho' will miss my strawberry daiquiris w/ extra rum, my hamburger po'boy and the greasy ass fries that go with it... But I hear I can eat momma's red beans in a month! Baybae! Dem suckas on order as we speak!!!

That's less than a month out--they schedule normally 6 weeks off work for an RNY. If you think you can do it, than by all means go.
I know I couldn't. I've been to Essence a number of times and averaged 2-3 hours (max) a sleep a night not to mention the drinking temptation, good foods when you are going to be on a restrictive diet, the walking, etc. I wouldn't have made it.
