Hi Everyone,
My dr. cleared me for solids today and I am 2-weeks post-op and I am terrified because I've heard so many stories about puking and pain when switching to solids.

Anyway, I made an egg. It took me until 8pm to finally decide to do it and when I did, I Could only eat half. A little pain made me stop, but did not get sick.

Anyway, can you all recommend any "friendly" foods for this stage in the game? I know everyone is different, but my dr. said I can eat tuna salad, chicken salad & etc, but I cannot fathom eating that right now.

Thanks.

Just go at your own speed. I was very pokie about adding foods. My first food was some baked fish (very light and flakey) It took me several attempts to eat regular meat...it didn't agree with me...and if it wasn't freshly cooked it made me. My surgeon told me that oils settle in the meat after it gets cold and those oils made me sick.  I lived on chili, refried beans and cheese for a long time.

Yeah!
I think my first meal was chilli.  Then I started experimenting with other beans and baked or broiled chicken combinations.  with the beans and meat you will start good habits of eating foods high in protein.

Good luck

Refried beans sounds goods since they are already mashed. As far as the chili...Was it chili from a can with just the beans and meat or homemade?

Introduce new foods slowly....and when you do try something new try it at home first.  I had a few not so pretty  barf moments in the workplace bathroom during my early post-op days

Take your time. The foods your doc says you can have dont have to be forced on your pouch. If you are not ready, dont eat it.

I do recall eating chili. I will have to go back to the manual and get back to you. I honestly do not remember. I know at 2 weeks out I was not eating tuna or chicken salad.
One of the key factors for my long term success, I believe, despite having gained about 8 lbs, was the very slow introduction of new foods by my doc. Me and my stomak have a relationship.

It helped me to be in tune to my pouch. It has been 4 years, I still cant eat very much. And when I want too...with the exception of white cheddar cheez its...I chill. I dont like the way I feel. And I dont like the way being morbidly obese felt either.

Take your time. If need be, just eat eggs...maybe add some cheese. It is ok. Stay on liquids/protein shakes. I still do. The things you do now will not be a "slow introduction" only. These are steps you may have to refer to in order to maintain. Today, I went looking for a protein bar for lunch...
Be friendly to yourself and your stomak
