OK, so....

I just decided the on 4/4/09 that I'm going to do this.  I've had 2 freak outs since - can I really do this, being such a picky eater and not the type to try something new (willing to do some now, but broccoli, califlower, etc will never enter my mouth, sorry!).  The second was what if I die?  Then a wise member on here (ATLDiva) said what if you die while overweight?? Point taken.

OK, so here is my strategy.  I have 4 seminars this month - 3 more to go. After I attend all seminars, I plan on narrowing it to two surgeons (I'm hoping I find one I like/comfortable in this group, otherwise, I'll have to start over).  Now, should  I do  consults w/ both?  Should I do consults w/ all?  Should I make appointments w/all then cancel the ones I don't like after the seminar, in case they are booked far out?

Whoever I'm going with, I hope they can do the 3 mth Aetna plan instead of the 6 (want to get done this year, as met my deductible already.  Plus 6 mths puts me in the busy time of year for work - open enrollment. Yeah, I can see how that's gonna go down saying I'm having elective surgery that could wait, but nope, having it now. Probably will fire my butt).

I've got a Rx for Adipex.  For that and to prep for life after surgery, I've given up Cokes - even Sprite I'm not allowing... or Barq's rootbeer..  A week ago today I had my last Coke Zero/Coke. Not an applesauce/juice person, but plan on doing that...

Can you all give me advice, please?  Also, is there anyone out there that was an EXTREMELY picky eater (I eat no veggies- I know, so please don't fuss.., poultry, seafood - allergic, not a big snacker, don't eat pizza or fried chicken and don't need to...)?  How did you deal?

Please help!!  Thanks, oh ye wise people!!!

GM,
First...LET ME SAY WHAT YOU LIKE/DISLIKE NOW WILL BE DIFFERENT LATER.

I tried so many types of yogurts as a pre-op and just wasted my money NOW I eat it twice a day.. You taste buds truly change.  I also used to love CL now I can only stand the Popsicles.

I have worked in Bariatrics and although I know and understand the rules it is much different as a patient.  It's good that you are making changes now but make it work for you...   As far as how you go about finding your surgeon that is something you have to work out just do not drive yourself crazy ...I know it's hard and such a big decision.... It will all work out..   Good luck.

Babe?
You are sooooooo making this more complicated than it has to be. lol.

In terms of your appetite, chances are your tastes may change after surgery.  If broccoli/cauliflower, etc. won't pass your lips now, its quite possible it may later.    At some point, veggies may be a good idea, hon.  Just an idea.  You never know, you may acutally like some of them.

Go to the consults. There's nothing wrong with having various perceptive/opinions.  This way, you have all the info and you can make an educated choice.

Giving up the soda is a great thing.  Though the temptation is always there to try it, there is no nutritional value in soda.

Take care, gorgeous and good luck with everything.

But that's just me... While I don't consider myself analytical in the numbers way, I do then to overthink, b/c I don't want to make a mistake that I'll regret.  This is big.  Hell, I used to be in the that's the easy way out crowd... until I met people who had it.  And for me, it's not gonna be easy @ all. But it's to the point where I can't take it.

But I do see your point...

So, I should do consults w/ all 4 is what you all are saying, versus the seminars, both or???

Singing Tevin Campbell.... I'm so confused.... lol.

You can start your 3 mo diet now. You don't need a surgeon to do it. There was an excellent explanation of what you have to do to get an approval. I saw it on the Insurance board. You might wanna go over there and look for a Aetna thread, there's always one. I did mine through my surgeon's office because for me it was easier, but I know many people that did it on thier own.

I went to 4 seminars and 3 consults before making my decision. Nothing wrong with an informed consumer!

I am a picky eater as well.... But I eat everything u dont eat lol. ( except fried chicken) Dont really like fried foods.
Like I dont like my food to touch eachother.

I also dont like moist/soggy food.
So I was wondering how do I even do the puree diet?
I also was worried about getting meals in. I sleep majority of the day b/c I work 3rd shift.

My advice to you is now start trying diff stuff thats healthy for you!

GIRL you can do it.  Don't worry about your eating habits because they will change.  What you like today, you may not like tomorrow, what you once hated you could love.  The POUCH rules!!! LOL!

Yes, go to as many seminars and have as many consultations that you feel is necessary for you to be well informed and confortable.

Since you don't eat seafood, you will have to make sure you get your protein in because you MAY get tired of chicken.  That's good you don't eat fried chicken because for me after 2 1/2 years I am starting to have trouble with fried foods.  Pizza you don't need because of all the carbs.

You are doing the right thing and you are no going to die on the table (I thought the same thing and almost didn't go through with the surgery).
