Post-op eating

I am almost two weeks out and have no desire for food other than popsicles and CL. My mind does wander off to foods that would taste good right now like greens, cabbage & salmon but the smell of any other foods makes me queasy.

I've been getting my protein through yogurt, but it is forced. The protein shakes....I got all flavors and brands and I want to upchuck everytime I taste an ounce.

My question....did anyone have a similar experience? I'll see my Dr. next week, but just want to know what others experienced a few weeks post op. Thanks.

You sound like a typical 2 week out post op.

You don't want to eat, smells make you sick, protein taste like crap.  Your right on track.  Just make sure your getting your water and vitamins in and eat what you can.

One of the main reasons not to stock up on protein as a Pre Op.  After surgery taste buds may be affected some even have a slight coating on their tongue. Things taste nasty.

The protein shakes are necessary because in addition to being a required food source it is needed to help you heal.  I remember using Pro-rated chocolate protein powder and mixing it w/ nsa carnation instant breakfast...I'd hold my breathe and drink it down. www.unjury.com has a truly non-flavored protein. I even put it in my starbucks because I can't taste it.

You may want to try the Ispure flavored water drinks-- 20 onces at 40 grams of protein. At this stage it may take you most of the day to fini**** off. It tastes like weak cool aid. I couldn't tolerate shakes at this stage although I had used them before wls.

I was the same 2 weeks out.  One of the things I did was brush my teeth often.  Keeping my mouth clean made taste and smells alittle more tolorable.  I only drank water and took Centruim Liquid Vitamins.  I keep it in the frig ... taste better that way.  I think between the film that developed on my tongue and my Keytones, the taste in my mouth was awful.  Everything made me want to vomit.  So, keeping my mouth clean was a key factor.

I didn't enjoy soft foods until like week 4.  I know it seems like a long way from week 4 but, hold on Girlie.  This to shall pass.

Good Luck to you.
