Hello BAF,

I keep hearing that you might loose some of your hair.  I wear a weave now, do you thing that after my surgery, my hair will  be strong enough to wear a weave?  I have went from a short hair cut, (as you can see from my picture) to a curly hair weave.  I would like to keep it .  Please advise.

Thanks,

Kathy

You will have enough for a weave.  My hair did thin.

I don't wear a weave so I can't answer that.  My hair is shedding a whole lot.  Not enough for me to cry about, but enough for me to be annoyed by strands falling all over the place.  I would think a weave would be good because you are not touching your own hair.  Just make sure you keep your hair healthy.

im almost 5 months post op and my hair is a tragic situation--kinda. Ive always had long thick hair. when i moved to fl i decided to keep a bob b/c its too damn hot and all that hair on your neck....not a good luck when you looking like Splinter from the NInja turtles--realy wet ratty looking--anyway so i keep a bob.......look, if i had low self esteem and didnt see the bigger/smaller picture--i wouldve been commited by now for suicide attempts. I stopped washing my hair as much b/c of the huge glob of hair in the sink, then you have to comb it out before you blowdry, thats another glob. My hair is much much thinner but you cannot tell unless you knew me and touch my hair. My mother is actually freaking out more than i am though. Not sure about weaves. I was not a weave kinda person then, but i will tell you this, i wouldnt put a weave in my hair right now if it was the only thing to do to save myself you hear me. If something as simple as washing it causes a glob, what would gluing/braiding and sewing do? hmmmm, not ready. I have, however, invested in the alternative: Half Wigs. If you look at my last pic, i picked up that little thing from the Asians....$28. So when my hair needs a break, I shalack some smooth n shine conditioning gel (it dont get hard) on it and attach that thing.

I take my vitamins religiously. I'm probably overdosing on the flinstones 4/day, fish oil omega 3's twice a day, b12 twice a day, biotin 1000mcg 2/day, and my gall bladder med to prevent gallstones. I drink protein shakes, eat meats, yadda yadda--me who has never had a problem or a bad hair day in her life: dont let these skinny happy *****es lie to you---MY HAIR IS FALLING THE HELL OUT! NO i dont need a wig....not yet.....I cant wait until it stops.

Hey Mossjones!

I was advised against weaves and braids etc.  My hair STILL shed.  I take my vitamins, get my protein in and take get Nioxin treatments at the salon every week.  While none of them prevented my hair from coming out, I beleive that it help TREMENDOUSLY with it growing back.  Now becuase my hair was growing back, it was a mess, thin on the ends yet thick were it was growing back.  I finally just bit the bullet and cut it off so it call all grow back  together.

Each person is different though.  My hair didn't fall out in clumps, it just SHEDDED something terrible. I would say ask your phyician.
I was once a mess!!  My mess is now my message!! WLS saves lives!!  I'm living proof!

I'm almost a year out (yeah!) and I di have  hair loss I too have preety think hair so it reallyw asn't that big of an issue as far as everyone else was concern but as I washed my hair and clumps of hair was falling out I was like WTH! It stopped at about 7 months and this afternoon in the shower I noticed that I've begun to shed again. So I don't know if its because I need more than the 70-80 I've been getting or if it was a fluke. I think that as long as it's the sew in weave you should be fine since the hair is braided but if your hair is going to break its going to break with the weave also because its not from combing but just your hormones and body trying to adjust to the changes and lack of protein.

Good luck!

IMO...the only real way to tell is to wait after surgery.  I am letting my relaxer grow out.  I get my ends trimmed on a regular and do deep conditioning treatments.  Biotin seems to help BUT yes my hair is sheedding it has slowed down and I'm 4months out.

My plan is to keep it chemical free and when I want the "straight look" get it blown straight!!

I would just wait and see what happens after surgery...  The good thing is the shedding will not last forever IF it even happens!!!

Thank you everyone for your input.  I am going to talk with my stylist, and then decide what to do.  I haven't had a perm in 7 months.  I just wa**** condition it and then re-weave it.  I am trying to go a whole year without a perm.    Thanks again.
