Newcomer to BAF! Give Myself a D+ w-Pre-Op Diet!

I think the level of risk involved in not following the diet may depend on how severely overweight you are as well as the type of surgery. The whole point of the diet is to shrink your liver which is supposed to make the procedure itself safer for the doctors to perform at least using the laproscopic procedure. The shrinkage does not occur using conventional diet measures.

Also, a patient's weight may cause further complications which is why some doctors refuse to  complete the surgery unless a patient loses a certain amount of weight. It's better for you to be in the best of health, relatively speaking, since it is a major operation. Some doctors may even see weight gain or an inability to stick to the diet short term as a lack of commitment to the surgery and the required lifestyle change that it requires and consequently decide that you're not a good candidate at this time. All in all it's up to the surgeon to make the call.

I didn't do well on my pre-op diet, but my surgeon made it seem optional asking that I give it a try. Well I only did it 2 days before my surgery.   I had a completely uneventful surgery and recovery. It's smooth sailing, thankfully. Others have  had varying experiences.
Check with your doctor's office.

Hello WELCOME to my lovely home! please take your shoes off at the door, sit down and have a glass of ice cold water or a tasty pineapple coconut smoothie and move around as you please.  As far as your liquid diet, i, like biggie, was not required to have one just nothing 24 hours before sugery and only breakfast the day before.  CONGRATULATIONS, GOOD LUCK and again, WELCOME!

Glad you found us and welcome to BAF!

You're not an idiot.  It will take time to get yourself right as far as your eating habits go.  Afterall, if it were easy, you wouldn't need the surgery, right?
I didn't have to do a pre-op diet, but since you do, just do the best you can.  Don't beat yourself up over the cheating.  Tomorrow is another day...just try a little harder.
Get some exercise in and hopefully there will be some wl.
Keep us updated on your progress.
