Share your fond or not so fond memories of Easters past.

I remember one of my Easter speeches that I had as a kid: "Easter after Easter the..." okay I forgot the rest. But, I remember the feeling of fear and pride as I stood in front of the church audience saying my speech. Nobody wanted to mess up. The last thing you wanted to do was to bust out crying cause you forgot your lines.

For years my mom would be up late at night sewing dresses for me and my two other sisters waking us up throughout the night to try on segments of the dress. I can't tell you how many times I was brought out of my drowsiness by the ***** of a stick pen in a lace trim. In the morning we'd have beautiful frocks to wear to church.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the time my sister left an Easter egg in her new purse. We searched for a dead mouse for weeks before discovering it in her Easter purse.
Anyway, what's your Easter memory: a speech, a song, games, making Easter eggs, a family picnic?

GM,

I just remember my grandmother always cooking.  She never really ate eggs but would  always eat my dyed eggs and always bragged to everyone about how special they were.

It's funny how you remember the small silly things BUT it really meant alot to me to share then with her.

Enjoy your day!!!

Thanks for sharing. Easter eggs were always a big deal in my house as a kid. My parents didn't want to splurge for the fancy decorations so we mostly used egg coloring and the PAAS colored tablets.

I remember having seafood suppers on Good Friday and being sick as a dog b/c I was allergic to seafood - just being around it!

I remember getting our hair done on Good Friday, then going to the church Easter Egg hunt  after choir rehearsal (b/c the Jr Choir always sung for Easter) in rollers.  Then going home to dye eggs that we didn't eat.  My parents bought us candy, knowing full well I didn't eat candy (they bought what I did like - mostly gum and the rest was what they liked) but my lil sis did.

Sunrise service on Easter - mad b/c we had to put choir robes over our new dresses, falling asleep in the choir stand b/c going to 5 or 6 am service was killer on a lil kid,  finally being able to show the dress off @ Sunday School.

Going to Grandma's after my dad got home from work...

Could it be that it was all so simple then???
I have an @$$h*le, therefore I have an opinion. or two... or forty.

My family never bought the Paz, we made our own coloring with vinegar and food coloring in HOT water...

We would drop the hard boiled eggs in the water & they would change color.  We would also mix the colors...

2nd memory - as an 8 year old, I wore a size 10 women's shoe.  My mom and I shopped ALL day to find some child looking shoes in the women's section.  After shopping ALL day, we found some white patent leather shoes.  I was SO happy and begged my mom to let me carry the bag.  She paid $80 for the shoes.  Needless to say, I lost the shoes in the mall and my mom was devastated as that was her last $80....  The next day, I had no shoes but, I learned a lesson - never let kids carry valuable things....

That was almost 40 years ago and yes, my mom STILL remembers that!

Easter was always spent at my grandma's house.  She would by like 10 dozen eggs and we would dye them the night before.  She always made us easter baskets filled with all kinds of candy.  We would go to church then come home and have an egg hunt.  This was like every year up until she died.  My grandmother loved the holidays and they have never been the same since she died.

It's ironic how such simple things brought of joy. The comfort of home and the love of family can never be replaced. Such memories are meant to be cherished. Embrace those of whom you love today and make this an Easter to be remembered.
