Are you concerned about gaining weight?

I am 8-days post op and have been researching the net for 10-year success stories and have only found one! Just about all of the others stories are from people who have gained their weight back and warn others not to have the surgery in the first place because of the long-term health effects.

Before surgery I spoke to about ten people who were 4-7 years post-op and the only one person (7 year person) has maintained her weight. Everyone else has gained anywhere between
30 lbs to over half of their weight back. Yesterday, I spoke to one of my old friends who is 6-years out who admitted to gaining 40 lbs within the last several months.

My questions are:
Does some of the weight comes back regardless of if you work the plan?

Do you think most people are just not admitting that they are eating too many calories and are calling the surgery a failure?

Is there ANYONE out there who had the procedure more than 5-years ago and have maintained a successful weight loss without any health problems?

Is anyone else concerned about this issue?

Hi...I am almost 4 months out and I definitely think about my long term goals of maintaining the weight I lose...I know 3 women who gained some weight back but had their surgeries 7-8 years ago and none of them regret having the surgery...My mother-in=law had surgery in 2003 and went from about 400 to now 220...she may have gained 10-15 lbs back and again she has no regrets...There are MANY women on BAF who ar more than 4 years out and they are doing great...I am sure they will chime in.

Does some of the weight comes back regardless of if you work the plan? NOT SURE BUT I WOULD IMAGINE THAT IF YOU ARE WATCHING YOURSELF...NOT ENOUGH THAT YOU ARE NOT ENJOYING LIFE BUT EATING THINGS IN MODERATION...WEIGHING YOURSELF...AND EXERCISING I DO NOT SEE WHY YOU WOULD GAIN WEIGHT BACK.

Do you think most people are just not admitting that they are eating too many calories and are calling the surgery a failure? I HONESTLY KNOW THAT THE WOMEN THAT GAINED WEIGHT THAT I KNOW OF FAILED THE SURGERY RATHER THAN THE OTHER WAY AROUND...THIS IS A CONSTANT THOUGHT FOR ME TO DO MY BEST...4 MONTHS OUT ALMOST AND I HAVE YET TO HAVE A COOKIE, CAKE, SODA, OF COURSE I HAVE HAD A FEW CHIPS HERE AND THERE BUT NOTHING DRASTIC...

Is there ANYONE out there who had the procedure more than 5-years ago and have maintained a successful weight loss without any health problems? I AM SURE THE WOMEN AND MEN OF BAF WILL CHIME IN...

Is anyone else concerned about this issue? I AM CONCERNED TO AN EXTENT...I LOST 70 LBS ON MY OWN AND GAINED MORE THAN 80 BACK AND I FELT HORRIBLE...I TOOK THINGS FOR GRANTED THAT TIME...THIS TIME I AM ON A TOTALLY DIFFERENT LEVEL WITH IT...ALL I CAN DO IS MY BEST AND LEAVE IT IN GODS HAND...

FYI: FOR EVERY FAILURE I SEE THERE ARE MORE THAN 10 SUCCESS STORIES THAT I AM AWARE OF.

I ALSO KNOW 2 WOMEN IN THEIR 20'S LIKE MYSELF WHO WERE IN THE 300'S THAT GOT PREGNANT WITHIN 6-8 MONTHS AFTER SURGERY AND HAVE NOT LOST ALL OF THEIR WEIGHT.

I am only 2 1/2 years out and I am maintaining at 157-160 pounds. I havent had any complications-thank God! I still haven't hit my goal of 150 but I'm still working on it!
I have a friend that had the stomach stappling surgery 13 years ago. She weighed 300 pounds and got down to 145 pounds. When I met her, 4 years later, she weighed 401 pounds. She gained all her weight back plus 100 pounds. She ended up having surgery again and went from 401 pounds to 170 pounds. Now, about 6 years later she weighs 275 and counting! Other than her food addiction, she hasn't had any complications.
I am determined to keep this weight off!
Sidenote: when I started researching WLS and told my friend, she was very UNSUPPORTIVE so I didn't bother to tell her when I decided to have WLS. I thought she would be the MOST supportive!

and be upset for the up coming years.  I like where I am and where I'm going when thing starting going the other way then I
get ready to worry. I've been so upset I've taken to saying I'm to stressed to be blessed. Started reading the bible in 90 days.
And know I can truly say I'm to BLESSED TO BE STRESS
I WILL NOT SAT AROUND FOR THE NEXT 8 YEARS WAITING TO SEE IF I FAIL ARE BE SUCCESSFUL.
I THOUGHT I COULD SAY I NEVER RAN INTO ANYONE THAT WISH THEY NEVER HAD THIS SURGERY.  But I was getting by vitamin and one lady really was in tears saying she wished she never had the surgery.  I never could get her to tell me why
there was a man waiting on here.(I wish I could call him a gentlemen I think he had lots to do with how she was feeling.)
It  was just the look on her face he must have not been very supportive. That god for my HB he still reminding me of
what I'm doing.WISH YOU LOST OF LUCK.
IT'S ALL WORST THE RIDE THANK GOD FOR WLS.

I think that as long as we never forget that this is a journey we'll never thinkt hat we got this "fat" licked. The heifah is always in the back of my mind and although my eating habits has changes the past few months it is because I thankfully have shifted to the maintenance phase of thislifestyle.

My NUT (nutrionist) said that there is sometimes up to 30 lbs "bounce back" weight gain after the honey moon phase of the first 18 months. Howver I have met a few people through support groups OH and my hosptials that are years out and are still doing great and I think the support and accountablity helps.

my support group has people who are 5-15 yrs out and i get 2 hear from them how they've been successful. they all have stories of those who had surgeries with them and who lost the weight but didn't work on the mind changing, didn't work on relationship with food, and also, who did not excercise regularly, and who all gained their weight back PLUS some.  they are now bitter about procedure and tell others not 2 do it.

i like 2 listen 2 success stories but i also like 2 listen 2 people who are unsuccessful. in fact, i like 2 listen 2 them more, because i learn more.  i learn what traps they fell into and can practice now 2 recognize those things and prepare myself mentally 2 combat them.

i don't plan 2 gain my weight back.  my life is TOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WONDERFUL now 2 go backwards.  i will always keep track of my weight by weighing regularly.  i will always continue 2 exercise vigorously. and, i will keep going 2 support group so i can continue 2 keep check of where i am, where i going, and from where i came.

Totally agree. I plan on making more concious decisions to change my lifestyle now. Especially exercise. It has to become a routine and not just a hurdle.

Ok - this is so politically incorrect.  **** them people!!!

This tool can do what YOU want it to do - but you have to be true to it!  I am almost 4 years out and keeping at my 200lbs down - think that's magic?  Well Merlin got a big ass wand then!!!  LOL

It's maintenance and constant vigilence - I do things in a way now that I never did - and I NEVER let the scale get away from me - I see more than 5 lbs up - it's straight up TITANIC time - I sinking everything till I get back 'right'.

There are plenty success stories out there - I think them folks are happily living their lives and ain't taking time to post anywhere about it!  LMAO - the miserable mofos out there with the long ass stories tryna 'warn' people - the sucess is probably the skinny mofo next to you at work that you eyeballin.......

I don't just have issues, I have subscriptions!  I'm saving on the newsstand price.......
