Corporal Punishment???

With my impending move to Florida ever closer, my friend sent me a some info. on corporal punishment.  It seems the school district where I will be enrolling my child has a corporal punishment clause "on the books."  The parent has to sign a permission slip at the beginning of the year but if you agree the principal of your child's school can administer swats.

I can remember once taking swats early on in a private school but Texas public schools do not allow corporal punishment.

There are huge debates on both sides and of course the standard alternative methods of time out, how it's degarding, it teaches might over right, blah blah blah.  Then there is the side that for every action there is a consequence and corporal punishment gives the school some authority that has been ripped out from under them with the whole "reward everyone, make exceptions for all" theories.

My grandfather was a teacher and a principal.  He swatted and then let you sign the paddle.  We knew as kids we didn't play with him.  My parent's spank, I spank and I will sign the paper.  I will let my child know--you f* up at school, the principal is going to f* you up and then I will when you get home.

I do like to get other people's opinions though...what's your thoughts?

i don't have a problem with it - my mom would NOT sign the form to allow it for me cause SHE wanted sole ownership of beating me - she used to use a dog leash - so I actually tried to FORGE her name to the thing thinking I could get outta one of HER beatings..... LOL!!!

I say let em get beat - it takes a village to raise one of the little mofos - the village earns the right to beat they azz!

I think more folks practiced corporal punishment AT HOME, they wouldn't need it in schools. LOL

Stopping by BAf for a sec!!

I was telling my mom the other day I think that is when Texas schools went down, when they STOPPED Paddling. They took away that privilege I want to say in the 90s. My son went to private school when he was growing up and one of the rules of the school were paddling, and if you did not give them that permission your kid couldn't attend the school.

My parents were the type they would beat your behind and the "neighborhood" was allowed the same privileges. Again, one of the many of reasons a lot of kids are out of control because many parents have the "You are not spanking my child mentality", not sure what happened to the village raising your kid.

I don't have a problem with corporal punishment in schools.  I'm just a little distrustful of other people doing the job for me.  Family & friends have permission to swat those behinds.  My daughter was shocked the first time one of the Aunties swatted that behind.  Kids figure out pretty early who can and can't touch them and my daughter likes to exploit that.  She also figured out that we won't swat her in public...  I've got to figure out a work around for that...

I'm really considering sending the kids to a private school because there seems to be more control in the classrooms.  I'm tired of schools not being able to discipline students and parents *****fuse to do it too.  My husband I will have no problem riding up to the school to swat a behind but...  are they going to call (CPS) child protective services on us?

Personally, there is a difference between being hit and being beaten. An occassionally hit on the ass is discipline of a child and a beat down is abuse. You don't hit on the face, belly, or chest just on the booty! CPS makes me sick at times.
Tis better to be dis-liked than to be loved by them cuz your always on their mind.
