Overweight friends........

aiight - so after my 'reunions' with folk through Facebook and talking to a homie of mine - I started to think..... I don't have any overweight friends...... the ones I did have all have had WLS so they aren't big anymore.......

I don't think I would be able to 'hang' with an overweight friend, either.  Kinda like a non-smoker hanging out with smokers..... can't do it without wanting to slip back into the 'old' habits and behaviors.  All the folk in my life now have very active, health conscious lifestyles.

It was actually kinda strange to sit back and really think about it - the couple of overweight folk I used to hang with dropped off when I dropped my weight - they never wanted to do the things I wanted to do now.... go to the gym, mall, park, etc.  And I didn't want to just go out to eat or hang at the movies or the house all the time.

Anybody else noticed this?  Or have you kept exactly your group of friends throughout your journey?

I have NEVER been the "overweight" type of person who was not active, not going to the mall, park or anythign else...My friends are mixed...big, small, skinny, short, tall- I do not discriminate because nobody really ever treated me wrong...I have one girlfriend who is bigger and was thinking about surgery but either way she is pretty and fly so her weight does not hold her down and her BFF is small...I guess it is all about the attitude...I  do not and never have "thought like a big girl"...My skinny friends eat worse than I did before my surgery and are just as lazy as I was before my surgery...I guess it depends on the person and the friends...

I have noticed that some of them feel uncomfortable shopping with me.....we go in to shop and I am on one side of the store in junior /misses and they are on the other side in the womans/plus  section. (not exactly promoting friendship or good manners cause you wanna shout acrooss the store ...gurl what chu think about this...??? )

So I love shopping and love it when my friends go with me but I dont like the fact that I may be making a friend uncomfortable.

I have lost "skinny" friends because of my weight loss which I believe they never were a true friend anyway.  I still have friends who are overweight and I would not "discard" them just because of this reason.  I believe in a person's character first and foremost and that is all that matters to me.

Well, most of my family is overweight so I can't leave them alone and I wouldn't want to either. I love my fam so it's cool but I've noticed a few things........family members hating or saying don't get too small or you'll look sick. I just tell them...........hell............I still have 98lbs to lose so...............

We were at a restaurant last night and I was eating salad and everyone else was pigging out. It made me uncomfortable because they kept asking............is that all you're going eat.

When nothing else could help................LOVE lifted me!!!!

I feel you on being uncomfortable - I can't be around overeaters or folk that are eating things I WANT to but CAN'T eat..... it's just too much for ME to deal with - how am I gonna kick it with somebody scarffing down a 1lb burger at Fuddrucker's?  LOL - reformed crack addicts don't go to crack houses and sit on the porch and watch the smokers!  LMAO

I am still overweight but I would have to say most of my friends where on the plump side.  With that said I was still the biggest.  Alot of people including family members have quit talking to me since my wls but that is fine with me because I feel like that is God moving people out of my way who are not for me.  My friends/associates must definitely like to do the things I like to do.  I monitor the company I keep closely.  Size does not matter when it comes to me making and keeping friends. My overweight friends did talk to me like I was in another catagory when it came to size though in the past I do not how it will be now as I shrink pass their size.  I already knew going in to this I was going to lose some people because the can not use my weight against me. I actually have family members who did not ask me to go anywhere with them because they thought I was to fat. So I never want to treat anyone like that.

I can't really get with the notion of ditching my fat friends.  I feel that a true friend is a friend.  I made a conscious decision to change my life.  I have to learn how to resist temptaion because I can be just as tempted by skinny people as I can by fat people.  My best friend loves to eat but has a nice figure.  I won't stop hanging with her because of that.  I've always been active, so that's not an issue for me either.   I hope that I won't stop feelinng like this once I reach goal!

Hmm - not saying you 'ditch' the fat friends - but as things change for you - folk might not fit into your new pattern in life - or at least that was the case for me.

I guess it's a little easy for me because all my close friends have had WLS - so we are all on the same page by default......
