Totally Exhausted...need some help

ok BAF every since i've been doing this couch to 5 k program, i'm totally exhausted all day...everyday!  i know i need to increase my protein intake (mine is by food only), but i need a little help.  it seems that i've become lactose intolerant since being banded  so doing the typical whey protein milk shakes ain't working no more.

i've read many state that they have something before working out.  mind you, this is about 5 in the morning...what should i eat/drink beforehand?  and what after?  i know i need something after because i've been feeling a little dizzy after getting off the treadmill.

i also remember reading about some protein shots and fruit protein drinks.  yes, i can go back through the post, but i am just too tired to do so. 

so, BAF, help me get out of this rut...give me some pointers.  thanks.

good job...shakes are nothing more but empty calories for bandsters...i don't care how much protein is in it......
i don't really have any suggestions for you....i too work out early in the morning but i don't like to eat prior...i cant eat anything b4 about 11 or so anyway....i've experienced some dizziness after getting off my treadmill too quickly...meaning not cooling down with a three to five min walk after a thirtty min run....so make sure yr doing a cool down before you hop off..

Hey Shontay,

I'm sure you would feel much better after upping the proteins.

The protein shots are New Whey Liquid Protein.  You can also get the fruit ones from GNC called Isopure (I think)

You can also try protein bars.  I can't recommend a brand because I've never tried them.

I am also lactose intolerant but I use the Walmart Body Fortress and mix with lactaid milk or SF flavored water, banana and ice.

Thanks Kim!  I am definitely taking notes.  I never thought about the Lactaid milk...may have to give it a try...

The Isopure brand has ready to drink protein but it's kind of costly. 

I've always used the Syntrax Nectar Brand with my favorites being Roadside Lemonade and Twisted Cherry, they mix easy with water or to change up the flavor I use Crystal Light.

Do you take B-12?  The sublingual no longer works for me, but that monthly shot is the bomb!

Thanks for your insight, HD.  Where do you get the Syntrax Nectar?  I don't take B12 anything...maybe I should start.  Does your doctor give you the shots?

I buy mine from The Vitamin Shoppe.  Initially, the doc was giving me the shot, now he just writes a script and I do them at home.

Whenever my band was too tight, I never had energy to exercise and the only thing I could get down was shakes, so it sort of defeated the whole purpose.

Currently I am at optimal restriction -- after not having much restriction for awhile, not too tight and not loose, for breakfast I may have a few spoons of yogurt that's all I can eat, and take multi vitamins, including biotin and calcium EVERY DAY, and for lunch I have a very small amount of solid protein like tuna, fish, chicken or beef, but it MUST be very moist otherwise, it will get stuck, I can't do very much at all, but I AM able to eat just a little of it.

Then for dinner I eat more protein and a few teaspoons of veggie, I am barely able to get 1000 calories in per day, but I am full of energy since I am eating solid food. Hope this helps...remember we bandsters are different from RNY our bands WORKS better with solid food.
