Hey, Everyone.  I am two weeks out of surgery.  Doing well but today wasn't a very good day.  I got sick after eating sweet potatoes today.  Just need some encouraging words.....thanks

I'm not sure what type of surgery you had, I'm just going to assume RNY.  Every surgeon is different but at 2 weeks post op, I was still on liquids.  Please be sure to take it easy.  Your pouch is still in the healing stages and you will find that there will be foods that just don't agree with you.

Some days are better than others.  Please be sure to stick your post-op eating instructions.  Not to say that you can't ever have sweet potatoes again, this just may not have been the time to introduce them.  Start of slow with things and it will surely get better.

Best wishes to you.

Thanks  Yes, I did have RNY.  I was told that I could introduce some soft veggies and potatoes into my diet last week at my 2 week check up.  I did go back to the liquids and felt much better.

Thanks, for the encouraging words, Hershey Dream.

HANG IN THERE IT WILL GET BETTER. I HAD A RYN 7/06 AND I GOT SICK A LOT, BUT KNOW I AM DOWN 150 POUNDS AND JUST HAD T.T AND ARM LIFT. SO IT WILL GET BETTER HANG IN THERE. IT WAS SO MANY TIMES THAT I WISH AT FIRST I DIDN'T HAVE THIS SURGERY, BUT KNOW I AM VERY HAPPY. I WENT FROM A SIZE 24 TO A 4-5. GOD WILL GET YOU THERE.

Dee welcome to losers bench!

Know one said WLS was easy but you will get over this hump. We all have humps some are bigger than others and some are easy. You will get over this Dee I promise you!

Try take it oneday at a time! When I get down I PRAY first, sip something really good; decaf tea or jello. Or take a walk and go talk to my neighbors. The old people on my block can take your mind off of anything when they start naming ALL their ailments !

Take it easy and don't be too hard on yourself!

If you had the band then you should be ok to try sweet potatoes and it just may not agree with you yet. If you had RNY it should be ok also but maybe the sugar didn't agree with you maybe you should try baked white or red potatoes. I am no expert but it's a suggestion. Good luck, and welcome to the loser side.

Hang in there.  It will get easier.  If you have a pouch, it can be very sometimey and picky.  What sets it off one day, may do better on another day.  Lots of trial and error with pouches.

So much of our journey is trial and error, so hang in there and stay encouraged.  You can do it!!

I agree with Terri. You know now to put sweet potatoes on the list of things to try again later down the road. There is going to be more trial and error. Freshly pre-op anything sugar free did a number on my stomach, now I can have them with no problem.
