Hello everyone. I'm new to OH and was so glade when I came across this forum.Anyway my question is what is everyone eating. Did you feel like you had to change your whole eating habit around,or can you still eat what you like but in smaller portions. I haven't had any surgery yet and still trying to decide which surgery is best for me(Lap band/bypass). So if anyone would like to share their experience. I'm willing to listen.
Thank you!

Hi Barbara, Simply put with any procedure it is a lifestyle change.I thought about both band and RNY and felt that for me RNY was the best because of the threat of dumping and that was a good decision for me.

good luck

Hello and welcome. I would say that you definitely have to change your eating habits. If not you may lose in the beginning but will eventually end up where you started. Now, I don't believe that means never eating what you like. I believe in having what I like every once in a while, not all the time and in very small portions.

Hey there - WELCOME!!!

This has been a change for me - lots of things I used to love to eat I can't eat at all anymore.  Smothered pork chops are one example - used to TEAR THEM UP before WLS - but now - they get stuck like a mofo!  LOL  So I eat lots more chicken and tender beef than I used to.  Bread is another thing - can't eat soft breads, mostly toasted and crackers.  So overall, the things I eat have changed considerably - but I don't miss anything because I have found something I like just as much - being THINNER!!!!!!

I don't just have issues, I have subscriptions!  I'm saving on the newsstand price.......

I am almost 5 years out, and all I can say is that I am a "fat gurl" fo life!  I tell people all the time, I had surgery on my stomach not my brain, with that said, the urges and carving never go away.

Thank god, I actually stuck to a healthy eating and exercise routine for the most part and developed some really good habits.  In general, probably 80% of the time I am all about the routine and the benefits of having this new body and health are a constant reinforcer to do right.

Now, let me tell ya about that 20% of the time.....thank god I still dump.....and knowing I am going to be sick, I tempt fate and take one more dang bite of cake. Sweets are my downfall.  I do well with a small piece of cake (a few bites) but my mind gets me in trouble.  So yes, eventually you will probably be able eat a lot of things you currently eat, but smaller portions.  Things that are really rich (greasy or sweet) makes me sick,if I eat more than a few bites that is.  However, it you start off eating bad, then you will likely develop a tolerance, which means you can eat more and more of the bad stuff and increase your chances of weight gain.
