holla if you feel me..fellas ya'll remember back in the day when you were standing the park sharing  bagged up quarts (before they called them forties) of Old E with ya boys and some cat would hollered out.. "Yo, save me dat corner."  And it didn't have to be one of your boys a complete stranger could walk up to you and ask that same question and you somehow felt compelled to give it up.. no matter how thirsty you were or how high your buzz you always accommodated him... there was something so humbling to a man's spirit when you gave another man that last corner..It was a genuine act of selflessness.. of kindness.. of love for another brother whose lips were parched as he walked on his journey...now flip that script and fast forward some twenty years cause i find myself asking the same thing to the women in my life now... "Can I get that corner?." See i handle my business very well and i get it done all day long but there are times when i just really need "that corner."  I don't need much and i really don't need it often but there are times when damn i just need that corner to make it through my day..
whether it be the corner of a wine bottle or the corner of my crib or the corner of my mind where i find my peace i beg you, "Can a brotha get that corner?"  ,, and everything ain't always about you or us or them and you really don't have all the answers and you really don't even know the question and damn sometimes it really is ..a man thing....So I ask you.."can i get that corner?

When we were little snotnosed boys acting up in school the teachers always sent us to the corner until we calmed ourselves down.. And we sat there in shame and silence slowly coming to terms with the raw realities our young lives faced..

"Give me the corner fellas."    that was the line the neighborhood beat cop used to clear the hustlers off the corners on sunday mornings when church let out..taking the corner back for a few hours was he way of flexing to the hood and his bosses that he was on top of his game...

So where's my corner?  where do i go so i can bring my game up a little bit...that corner where i can get a chance to reflect and recharge..It ain't much you ain't gon miss it baby i bet you won't even know it's gone..just save me the corner of the pot damn the big piece of chicken cause it won't get past my band anyway..

Andireallydontwanttotalktoyouaboutitcause..cause you know why?  cause i already know what your answer is and that ain't the answer i need to hear right now..and besides..i don't trust you like that.. i mean we cool but i don't trust you with my **** like that..i don't trust that you won't judge me...so much of who i am in your eyes is based on your need to define my manhood..

so in the meantime sista..i beseech you.."can i get that corner?

Interesting topic.  Here is an idea that I got from a relative.  She would let her man not say one word , after he has come home ,for about 30 minutes.  At first he did not understand it, but then she explained.  When you come home, you are tired, fustrated, need to unwind and don't need to hear anymore problems.  It hard enough just being a black man in todays world.  So within that 30 minutes, a brotha gets to recharge, chill, and get his head straight.  This practice gives him a good reason to come home to a peaceful house.  I don't like my sister, but I love that idea.
Without struggle, there is no progress.
