New Post-op Tip of The Day

We discussed coping skills the other day and the importance of having some support systems in place. This is very important because wls patients have a high percentage of transfer addiction because we can no longer turn to food when we are stressed.

There are many wls patients that have turned to shopping, sex, alcohol, pain meds, over use of laxatives and other addictions because food is no longer an option. Please be mindful of the symptoms of an addiction and seek help. Wls has saved many lives but these little addictions can sneak up on us and it's very easy for us to become unhealthy with these addictions. There is a forum on OH for people with addictions if you find yourself in this predicament. I also suggest seeing a counselor whether you have an addiction or not because this surgery works on your mind just as much as your body.

Very good message....I know that I will start to attend my surgeon's support meetings....its just feels good to bounce ideas/feelings off of others who are on the same journey I am on.
