OT: Wednesday Bird Quiz #1

I lead a bird hike this weekend for some friends who own a bird store. (They consider me the store's "ornithologist"...lol). Yesterday I thought I'd go out to the site and do some scouting...and see what kind of birds were out there.

While out there...I came across the below set of birds. I'm hoping that they will still be out there this Saturday...and folks will get a chance to see them.

Any guesses on the name of this bird???

VERY...VERY...good guess. But no...not Mottled Ducks HD. (Notice the bill coloring on one of the ducks...the male...)

CONGRATULATIONS LUVING ME!!!

This is indeed a male and female duck called a Gadwall.

I'm hoping they will still be around this weekend when I lead my birdhike...because there are also a lot of female Mallards around...and I'm hoping to show folks how to tell the difference between the two.
