Obesity and Public Policy - will ever the twain meet?

I doubt that they will ever be public policy that will keep obesity at bay. For one, people simply don't like having their choices taken away or being told what to do. Secondly, now more so than ever pts aere viewed as 'clients' and as long as there is a $ making aspect of healthcare the powers that be are going to be ok with obesity because ultimately there will be revenue generated from it.
I work in state government in NC and the representatives are trying to get this passed:
Moving overweight participants with a Body Mass Index (BMI) higher than 40 to the 70/30 option effective July 1, 2011
Moving smokers to the 70/30 option effective July 1, 2010
Then you would have a year to get your BMI to 35 or below and you would be put on the 80/20 option! If you don't you remain on the 70/30!
The state employees are still fighting this one. This is crazy!!
