Nikki, we have a pay-as-you go phone that the girls get to use for specific purposes like if we drop them off for an after school function or if we're splitting up at the mall.  Otherwise, I don't think they need one either.  They don't go NOWHERE without permission.  I'm tripping on these parents who say they need a phone to track down their kids.  That is a hot mess.

Now that firefly and the pay as you go for emergencies I think are all these children need.  Now I know I grew up in the 80's and 90's but my mama was strict and I had to be home within a certain time; and if she wasn't there it was start your homework and let your grandmother know ur home.  I was not allowed to talk on the phone until I damn near graduated from hs.  My mom's motto was if you couldn't talk about it during school there wouldn't be no talking about if after school.  And if I wanted a cell phone I had to use my own money and pay the bill myself.  Now if you have a child you 'trust' then I don't see anything wrong with the cell phone and it being monitored for it's use.  But this is just my opinion...

Wait a min. Why are the boys being charged? Those little heffa's are the one's who sent photo's, they are the one's who should be charged. This same crap happened at my school.
I think we have something's backwards. Our young girls need to be educated about the aftermath of their actions and they also should have consequences.
I see if the boys passed those photo's around, but I think the crime does not fit the charges . These kids text and send things all the time. But some of these kids are being made to plead guilty and file as a sexual predator. Not right!!!!

That ain't fun.  When the boys start forwarding them pics their little hot asses will want someone to intervene.

The problem isn't just the question of morality, but that these kids while have to carry the stigma of being labeled a sexual predator for the rest of their lives. Sure it's wrong, but it should not be a crime that they should have to go to prison over or have on their record. They are not engaging in sexual acts. And as someone else pointed out, the girls sent the picture. Why cry "rape" if you were not only a willing participant, but the one who initiated the act?
Every one should be warned of the dangers of posting information including photos on any wireless device. They remain in virtual space where they can be sent to whomever the recipient decides. I'm careful now about sending out pictures even through my cellphone. I'm praying that the few that are out that never resurface.

I just have one questions. Did the school administrator look through the student's phone? If so, I think there are several issues with the story that needs to be addressed. And at what point will parents be held accountable for their children's actions. I do not think this is a government issue, this is an issue for parents. I wonder if the school official contacted the involved students parent's before contacting authorites. This issue opens a whole can of worms!

We're different all my nephews had cell phones (8,12, and 13) However they couldn't take the to school and couldn't call anyone that we didn't put in the address book AND no text (we learned ater BET and ring tones) but they can call us (they are at my mom's in Cali) or her when they are here. Honestly they are bored with them now because they've had them.

We did have a problem with the two oldest ones wanting to record themselves on the webcam with their boxers turning flips because they wanted to be on youtube!

I think we did things back when we were growing up and if the technology was available then we'd do soething crazy like that too. We have to reember we are assessing this with 20-50 year old minds not the minds of 13-16 year old teens with raging technology.

With ALLLLLL that said I'd beat my nephews or my kids ass if they did it!
