Hey BAF, Hope all are well!!!

OK, I finally got approved. Yay!!!! However, when I called to inquire about my approval. Which I was mad that I had to call them to find out I was approved. Any who, when the young lady advised me that I was approved my referral was at a totally different hospital and surgeon . She advised that was because of my hospital of choices table weight. Table weight, WTH now I know what that means but why should that be an issue if this particular hospital performs bariatric surgery.

Has anyone ever heard of this? By the way I have Kaiser Permanente.

Thanks in advance

this sounds very bootleg. you began the approval process with one surgeon and now you're gonna get cut by a different surgeon?  thats wild.

the table weight don't make much sense either. again, when you began the process they should have known what was required to accomodate your surgery.  for them to pull this switch up on you is messed up and it all sounds fishy.

I agree. Although they told me this the surgeon of choice wants to see me for my consult. So I'll get more info and knowledge, hopefully at the end of this month.

Hmmm... it does sound kinda fishy, but if your original hospital of choice is not a bariatric center of excellence, I could see it.

If the table weight isn't appropriate for bariatric patients, I'd wonder what else wasn't appropriate.  Just 'cause a hospital performs a particular surgery, that doesn't mean they provide the best accommodations for larger patients -- or the best care.

Check into the hospital your insurance recommends.  This may be a blessing in disguise.

My mom said the same thing that it could be a blessing in disguise. I'm going to find out more at my consult on the 31st.

I'm with your mom and Woo-it just might be a blessing in disguise.  For your safety you want to be at a hospital that is well equipped to care for Bari pts.  Please be sure to ask this new surgeon all the same questions you asked your original doc.

Good luck!

I had Kaiser for some years and that's one of the things I hated about them. You couldn't go see who the hell you wanted to see. They are def the micro-managers of the insurance world!!

I totally agree... I appreciate the micro-manging when it comes to my health but, I would like to go where and to whom I choose. But I have ny consult with my surgeon of choice on the 31st and we'll see from there.

We have to remember that this is our life and our body and if something is done or said that isn't or doesn't sound logical, we have a right to question it...Any doctor that doesn't like to be questioned isn't the doctor for me...When they do answer your questions, revert to childhood and question the answer...In situations like this we have to empower ourselves!...Always document the date, time and person you spoke with on the phone because it's always your word against theirs...I know that we all know that, just thought I'd throw that in.

"... For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more." Luke12:48
