New Post-op Tip of The Day

This tip comes from reading #1 Mack Mama'a post entitled something like "I know y'all ain't dr.s but...." My memory is bad but that is pretty close to the title from a couple a days ago.

She presented symptoms that sounds like hypoglycemic episodes, such as: sweating, dizziness, confusion, possibly fainting and weakness. This is something I suffered from before surgery and also after surgery. I always kept a piece of candy or glucose tablets with me so that when my blood sugar would drop I would have something to bring it up.

My tip today is to always carry a snack with you. Whether you have hypoglycemia or not you need to always have something in your purse, pocket, desk or fridge at work. I do this for 2 reasons: 1) because of hypoglycemia and 2) because I don't want to be somewhere and need to eat something and not have a healthy choice. Sometimes, we actually forget to eat amazing right ? Well a snack of a few almonds, a low carb low sugar yogurt, high protein bar (be careful because they have tons of calories, carbs and sugar or sugar alcohols), beef or turkey jerkey, string cheese stick, peanut butter crackers or anything that is quick and meets your nutritional requirements.

I can't tell you how many times I had to stop and get a burger without the bun or chili from Wendy's because I was not prepared and if I wait too long to eat, I will get faint and have passed out. It's okay to make wise choices at fast food places every now and then but you may not want to get into a habit of eating it frequently due to the calories. Is it the girl scouts or boy scouts motto that says "Be prepared" well we need to adopt that motto as well.

Disclaimer: Check with your nutritionist about when it's okay for you to eat nuts, jerky or any type of fruit. All programs are different.

Thanks Killa,
I got caught like that on yesterday. (no water either). Ended up going to Whitecastle and ordering a hamburger. I ate the meat only. Next time I will have something with me.

If I have to come to Michigan and pour water down your throat, it won't be pretty. Since you're early out a rtd protein shake should help a lot with the new newbies. For those that don't know rtd= ready to drink.

I need my butt kicked for that one because if nothing else I ALWAYS take my water and just plain forgot it on yesterday and didn't realize that I would be gone so long.
