Do you think all RNYers should take vitamin B and calcium supplements

I just had my first labs done and all my results where with in normal range.  I was told my surgeon office to just continue taking my two multivitamins a day.  Do you think RNYers need vitamin B-12, iron, and calcium supplements? I know every surgeon and nut is diffrent I just want your opinion.

YES.
You are still VERY early out from your surgery. Right now your body still has stores of certain nutrients that you had before the surgery. That will not always be the case. I will be 5 years out in a month and a half and I STILL take a handful of vits and supps EVERY day. Go to the RNY board and Grad board and ask anyone about the troubles they have encountered with vitamin deficiencies. It ain't no JOKE.

That is what I though but I was not instructed to take more than two multivitams which I made sure were adult vitamins.  So I think I will add calcium, iron, and b-12.  My nut said they do not reccomend me taking anything else unless my labs indicate I need something else.

Also, be sure to get Calcium Citrate NOT Calcium Carbonate.

Be careful, unfortunately you can't listen to EVERYTHING surgeons say otherwise there would never be class action cases against them. As with anything that makes money some will learn to perform the procedure and little else.  It is important that YOU research and learn about your health.

I was fortunate to have a caring Surgeon who found it necessary to study the care of patients. I was warned and have experienced that the majority of our issues might not even show up until sometime year three and that labs aren't the best gauge for everything.  One of those things being calcium...By year three you should start having bone density exams. As a woman of child bearing age you should be taking calcium anyway and after having RNY you should make sure that it's calcium citrate for absorption.  Look at your multi...more than likely that calcium is carbonate. Additionally it is wise to take at the very least B12, B-complex and B-1.. Trust I know this as someone who has experienced B12 complications during my 4th year.

Please do as it is very serious. Anybody that knows me can attest.  Due to not taking my B12 I couldn't concentrate or retain things, very evil and easily angered, pain then weakness in my legs, feet, arms and hands...at the worst stage I couldn't hold my toddler's hand if he chose to pull away! I camped on my PCP's doorstep and demanded tests to find out my problem because as he said my labs were normal! Finally a Neurologist found that I was having nerve issues due to lack of B12. Thankfully it was caught early because nerve damage is not reversible.

Which labs did they run?

*IMHO* your NUT and Doc are idiots. Two multis don't cut it.

Okay, that wasn't very nice, there'sa bounty of info available online. I've read so many horror stories.

I don't want to become another statistic. Here's what I take:
