Good morning, BAF!

I know most of you don't see Oprah until later today - I'm watching the show now and the discussion is about Men beating Women.  Right now, there are two men on the show who have beaten their women; coming up, two men who have been through treatment for abusing their wives.

This show is an eye-opener.  Women, men, girls and boys need to watch this show - someone's life could be saved.

Hey Rhonda!!! I love what Steve Harvey is doing.  By the way, our Executive Minister is actually moderating a class discussing his book - I am signing up for it - just to get in the discussion on the topic.

Niecie and I talked about this the other day - I feel that what better person to discuss what a woman should do as she is dating a man, than a man!  We need to hear what men are thinking about us - and I believe that Harvey has definitely hit the mark with this book.  I know the brothers aren't too happy about it, but oh well...at least they may have better women as a result of a woman thinking like a man.  I'm all for it...and will definitely read the book for the class.

I cannot wait to see that show - I'll still be off work!

I can sympathize w/ SOME of the domestic violence. I don't agree w/ it but I can understand what causes it. A MAN can only take so much and sometimes SOME women push those buttons and take you down through there. I don't agree w/ it but I understand it. I've never been in that situation however i've seen some people be taken down through there. Its a horrible thing.

Now some men just have anger issues and are true punks who need to be dealt w/. Those are the ones that I dislike. However the law doesn't distinguish between the two which is a very sad situation.

I pray that I never be put in that situation.

THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT A PERSON WHO INFLICTS VIOLENCE (PHYSICAL, SEXUAL, VERBAL OR EMOTIONAL ABUSE) ON ANOTHER PERSON THAT DESERVES SYMPATHY!

I agree.  It's good that you're mentioning boys and girls also.  Boys need to know that it's unacceptable behavior at a young age.  Girls also need to learn that it's NOT okay for their SO to hit them.  And it can go both ways, cuz you know women hand out beat downs too (don't know how she managed to kick me in my head).....Just kiddin!!!!

But seriously, I think We as parents should continuously reinforce these principles throughout our kids' lives.

Let me ask you this...

Do you think this is a result of us not teaching our children how to address anger? I would bet alot of abuse comes from not being able to handle that anger. So wouldn't we be better off we taught kids how to address anger and not just to keep your hands of your mate?

I'm just wondering. Hell I don't have kids...

but just for conversation.

True, I think unmanaged anger is one of the factors that causes it.  Unfortunately, not everybody has learned to effectively manage anger.  Seems we just sort of instinctively learn to “manage" it by taking it out on someone else... our SO, the one we say we love.  So, teaching our kids to manage it is one approach, I think.

Another factor is what our kids see mommy and daddy do.  If they witness us woopin up on each other and/or constantly yelling, they grow up thinking it’s okay.
