Leave of Absence Question

Were any of you expected to be available during your LOA?

My boss cannot function without me.  He's away from the office right now but he has called me about 17 times in the span of 3 hours.

He just informed me that while I'm out on LOA he will need to be able to call me throughout the day.   I was gonna take my lap top home just too check in and see if there's anything that needs immediate attention but if I do that and he keeps calling me, I might as well just come to work.  WTF?

i used to have a job like that. They wanted to be able to reach me at anytime day or night. You know what I did I didnt answer the phone. Period. He can't reach you if you can't answer he will learn to cope on his own.

Remember people only do to you what you allow them too.

You're right but I know since he's mentioned that I NEED to keep my phone open he will just come to my house to "check on me".  He is a trip!

Leave of Absence means just that!  I didn't check in, they didn't call.

I might just have to call HR so they can explain what LOA really means!

try talking to him first. Gently explain that you are on a LOA to take care of your health. (I am assuming that is what the LOA is for) Tell him in order for you to come back to work 100 percent you need this time to take care of you. Then tell him from this point forward you will not be answering any calls and you are not accepting any visitors. Then tell him if he has any further questions he can speak with HR about it. We have some HR professionals on the board and they can correct me if I am wrong but he could be opening the company up for a lawsuit (not that you would sue) if his behavior would continue. And I am sure the company doesn't want that and would advise him to back off.

don't let him rope you into that....u r on a LOA! you will not have time to be anwering phones or checking emails you will need your rest trust me.

I would sugguest having him assign someone else to the task, clue that person in to exaclty how he is and what he could possibly want while you were out.  I also would make sure I stated that they could not bother me for at least 3 wks...just my 2cents

Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely who others think you are!

When I do get back, I'm requesting a transfer anyway!

He is just way too needy, too disrespectful and just too much.  I shouldn't have to constantly teach him lessons in office etiquette.

I had to have a talk with him about just walking into my office (even using his key), interrupting me while I'm on the phone, knocking on the bathroom door, coming to my house when I'm sick....the list goes on and on.

I think I'll just ignore his calls and only respond once a day.  That way, he won't drive me crazy and he won't try to sabotage my review or eliminate my job.  I've seen that happen to people.

Is he planning paying you 100% of your pay instead of short term disability? Tell him you will not be up for calls or visit. If he STILL doesn't get it, then have a talk with HR.

Uh yeah....make sure you communicate via email.
