Thank you to all...
I just finished reading everyone's posts as I left on Friday to go and see her. I didn't want you to think I didn't read your posts.
My opinion stands the same but I do appreciate the insight. The alternative blood methods were not a guarantee in her situation as they had already tried those so they were wanting the release for a transfusion if needed.
She ended up having a procedure on Friday to cut off blood flow to the fibroids (original cause of the clots/birth control treatment) but the chance of needing blood was still a very real possibility at that point.
I have no qualms in saying that I advised her of my opinion including the information I gathered from watchtower.org that stated she would not be in a disfellowship situation if she took blood in an emergency situation. I also asked where all of her friends of the faith were providing support for her in this dire time. Not one showed up--not one which makes me wonder what would they do if they were in the position of life or death.
I also told her point blank I would testify if necessary for her mother to get her declared mentally incompentent if necessary.
For me this is it...I am a mother and I had the pleasure and also shared the moment of heartbreak with her mother. We are going to be mothers until the day we die, it doesn't matter if are children are 4 or 40.
And I am going to do everything in my power to take care of my child. I can't even imagine losing mine and so as a mother I understand her pain and would do anything to help her let her child live (regardless of age.)
So with that being said, at this point she is doing better and her mother's love has prevailed...if necessary she will have a transfusion.

Im really glad that she is doing better. I was thinking about you and her over the weekend. I know this is a tough time for you, her and her family right now and i hope she gets the help that she needs. I know in the end the the heartfelt decision that seems best for the situation will be made.
and
go out to you and her.

Taw I finally got a chance to catch up with the thread I hope that your friend is in better sprits! i too come from a JW background, however I left when I was 18 and did not turn back. I feel very stongly about the blood issue and if my back was against the wall or my childrens I would take blood, that's just something I don't agree with. I am glad that you did your research and decieds to go see her, she needed you. It's unfortuante that no one from the hall went to see her, but at least YOU were there and that's all that counts!!

Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely who others think you are!

hmmm that is very strange.....We actually have a hospital Liason committee that is in place for situations like this....were they aware of her situation??? Also i noticed in your other post you said she voted and celebrated someones birthday. Is she baptized??

glad to hear you have settled your situation with your friend. I read the thread but never replied- when it comes to my friends and whatnot - I let everybody chose their own poison. My mother refuses to be smart about her health - and while i love her enough to cut a mofo over her - it's her choice. We have discussed the handling of her final arrangements and I have even talked about how I will deliver her eulogy (sp?) at her funeral......
Me personally - I understand that according to the faith if you take blood you go to hell - but I would gladly go to hell to stay on earth to take care of my daughter - just my $0.02
Keep us posted on how your friend is doing!!!!
