New Post-op Tip of The Day
Do not go do a lot of shopping because you will be changing sizes quickly. Some people even change sizes in shoes and don't forget about ring and bracelet sizes. Don't be that person who goes and buys all of these new clothes that you think you will be by the summer and you will be smaller than that in 2 months. Consignment shops, thrift shops, Goodwill shops and clearance racks will be your best friends for right now. I've gone down one size in shoes and 3 sizes in rings and from a size 26/28 to a 12/14 in clothes. There is no way that I could guess my size from one month to the next and sometimes from one week to the next. Don't waste your money right now. If you have a support group with a clothing exchange then that may help also.
Prepare and educate but don't throw away money and enjoy your journey.

Thank you so much for all your tips! I wish I heard this one earlier this week though because even though I was shocked by my 16's a few weeks ago I just bought some pants and gym clothes in 12's and 14's. Ah well, lesson learned but you know I'm not complaining. Thank goodness for clearance racks and I will have to make a trip to a Goodwill soon 'cause I don't like wasting money. Thanks for these great tips, I know that I as well as other newbies really appreciate them.
My goal 135; current 132; pre-op highest 285; I have lost more than I weigh... I my RNY!

I totally agree with the post, however--can the fat and fabulous people please dontate your clothes to the goodwills and thrift shops here? I'm sorry, but i live in sw florida. if you are fat, then it must mean you are frumpy. With that said, i have had no choice but to buy clothes and spend a coupld dollars for them. I was a 26/28 in both tops and bottoms. Now im a 22 (24 in levi's) pants and a 18/20 top. I tried to ride on out at work with my size 26 slacks for the past 15 weeks but i cant do it anymore. It made me feel like crap. Its much easier said than done if you live in a fat-tabulous place like atlanta, chicago, detroit, dc.....places where thick sistahs flourish and drop of their duds. I spent the past mont thrifting. I found everything from lame with sequins to triple knit pants. I cant do it. So although im dropping about a size a month...i had to spend the money i spent today on a nice pair of slacks, some jeans, and other do dabs.....by the way....my entire walk in,--insert a twin size bed and night stand, do a cartwheel--closet is full of 26/28 fabulosities from Lane Bryant....i put them on cragslist, but no responses.....any other suggestions?
Great advice. I started out in the 20s and at first struggled cause everything was too big. I finally broke down and bought two pairs of black pants and then finally got into my 18s and 16s. I have now worked my way out of everything in my closet. I had a "yard sale" on a cold winter day about a month ago. I invited a couple of co-workers and friends over and cleaned out all the winter clothes. I made $500!
Went to goodwill to spend some of it and found 9 dresses (one with the tag still on!) all insize 10 and 12 for the summer. The 12s fit great and the 10s will very soon. For those 9 dresses I paid $52. I was so happy!
I also made a connection on here and sent her some clothes too. It made me feel good that someone else who was struggling like me could have them.
It's what we asked for but when it happens, it is a trip! I'm loving being able to walk into the GAP and buy a pear of jeans.
