I am grown enough to know the things i do that provoke people. I manipulate for fun. I am, quite possibly, a narcissist. But i am by no means a MASOCHIST.
So, yes, i knew exactly what i was doing, and knew exactly at what point i should stop..but i chose to continue. This was not any of those "trivial" scenarios you outlined. This was me being an asshole, plain and simple. If you read my post, i believe i made that clear...as well as mentioning that we would both be fighting.
It is a shame that this occurs for many women, but in my case, i know how to accept responsibility for my behaviors.

Damn, thanks for the memories. Back in the day before I ever gained any weight, my EX got freaked at a party because I was dancing all night with a gorgeous friend who had somes moves. EX didn't dance, so hell, why not? I didn't know it, but he stewed about it until we got to the hotel room later that night, and I paid the price.
The cops came to the door, while I was on the floor, but he told them that it was the room above ours where the fight was. Idiots believed him, and to his luck there really was a guy beating his wife in the room above us and they arrested him.
I stayed, but I told him the next day that if he ever touched me again, I'd break his arm. He laughed at me, and I told him I'd take a hammer or baseball bat to his arm while his slept. He never touched me again, but I was always afraid of his temper - he was a really big linebacker guy.
I was STOOOPID for staying. And dayum, I had almost forgotten about that, grownup professional woman that I am now.

Good post. My stepdaughters are very upset about her taking him back. I've tried to explain to them that the psychology behind abuse is very complex and that BOTH parties need to get some help. No one deserves to be hit, no matter what one might say to the other. Violence is not the way to resolve conflict in a relationship.
I was in a relationship with a verbally abusive man when I was young, so I can understand the mental manipulation that goes along with this kind of situation. No judgement here. I truly hope she will get some help and be able to break free from this toxic relationship.
