We too are a society!!!

You go into a resturant.....with your children...or your elderly parents. There a a specfic menu just for that "society". Why not us? After my surgery I was given a card/keychain stating that my stomach is tiny....and to please allow me to eat from the childrens menu. Well very few resturants actually honor that. Espicially not at the burffets. I say we form a national coalition to having a menu desgined for bariatric patients. I really hate the idea of paying for food that I wont even eat. Or being extreamly limited to what I can eat from the menu ie: drinks...cause a sista will not do soda or sugared drinks. Who do we talk to....where do we go. Now I know how wheelchair bound people feel when they go someplace that dosent have an elevator...or a chair ramp. It sucks huge monkey ballz!! Where do I go to start a petition?

Sorry cuz - but I can't cosign on this here with you.  I LIKE the fact that I can't eat all that food - so I don't frequent places that serve a boatload of food!  Also - most places will offer a half portion.

what about folk who can't eat say, walnuts?  They don't get charged less $$ on their sundaes.  What about folk who can't eat solid food because of mouth surgery? there's not pureed menu available for them.

while I can appreciate the fact that we have to alter our approach and how we deal with some situations in the world, I think it's OUR burden to bear - that we should demand or look for some mass alteration of current process to make us more comfortable when there are options and ways to deal with it.

Your best bet is to just eat at home...it's healthier that way!

I rarely go out to dinner, but when I do, I go with someone I can share with or just take leftovers home...

Hello:
I would say that the best thing to do is become active with the different Bariatric Groups (Organizations), then make this an agenda priority. No need to reinvent the wheel. These groups have the power(in numbers) to persuade restaurant chains like TGIF, Red Lobster, Denny's...or even local restaurants. You just have to become involved, because no petition is going to move a business unless it effects their bottom line. Power in numbers>>>example Weigh****chers. And they may even end up charging MORE for EXCEPTIONS...I've noticed that all special dietary sections on menus are more expensive because they are not the norm, prep time is money.

Also, at most places anyone can order from the children's menu or order appitizers. I know that if I order something cooked special, most restaurants try to accomodate me. To a greater extent I personally believe that when we go out to eat we should realize that some of us don't even eat as much as a child,  we are never going to get our money's worth, so be prepared to bring home a "doggy bag".

Good point about using the 'numbers' with the Bariatric Groups...

But why are most of the appetizers something fried?  Maybe it's just me and the places I go...but the appetizer selections suck.  LOL

Actually the kids menu stuff does too....grilled cheese sandwich, mac and cheese.....stuff I wouldn't want to order anyway!

Girl I hear you...but you dont need a petition.

Just some tupperware or gladware to take with you to the restaurant  and bring some of the good-good home.

I would make that meal last 3 days if I had to........

In life,  and especially on this journey there are sure to be days when you falter and give in.......just remember to never give up.

This is not something that bothers me. Not once in almost 5 years have I ever shown any eating establishment my surgery card. Generally I will either just get an appetizer, or just order what I want and take the leftovers home.  I personally like being able to get more than one meal out of it.

Hey MC, I have never used my card(never tried to get one).  I love just ordering from the kids menu or an appetizer.  Whatever is left, if no one wants to share, I take home for leftovers.  I personally would not like a special menu, I put a lot of thought into what I can and cannot have when I do go out.  I also will ask if they will grill/broil anything other then fry my food if nothing is on the menu for me, usually they will, but not always.
