I initially figured that it would take 2-3 weeks for me to be able to return to work. Then today while i was getting pre-admitted for my surgery on 3/17/09 a lady who had the RNY-open told me that I needed 4 weeks....I know people and results vary....

I had lap RNY it only took me three weeks.  I was tired in the fourth week though.

I would say take 4 if you can.  I could physically go back after 2 - but the 4 helped me get my habits and game plan together.

I don't just have issues, I have subscriptions!  I'm saving on the newsstand price.......

How is your tolerance to pain? My doc gave me four weeks, but I only took one week and one day.

It really does depend on you.....

I HAD THE RNY-OPEN AND I JUST CAME FROM MY POST OP APPT AND I WAS ASKED WHEN I WANTED TO RETURN TO WORK.  I AM TAKING 5 WEEKS JUST TO MAKE SURE I CAN HANDLE MY DIET PROPERLY. YOU SHOULD PROBABLY TAKE AT LEAST 4 BECAUSE HAVING IT DONE OPEN TAKES ALOT OUT OF YOU THE FIRST COUPLE OF WEEKS.

I took off 4 weeks. I stop feeling pain after about a week.  My incision didn't stop draining until about 3 weeks out.  I didn't start getting energy until about 6 wks out and today at 11 wks I still get tired sometimes.  I didn't have open though so it may be different in that case.

I was out of work for 9 days with Lap RNY.  I was ready to get back to work but I also have a desk job where I was sitting all day.  If I could have afforded it, I would have taken off more just to get used to everything.

I work for a school district so I had off a week during Christmas, and then I took off a week. However, I was feeling great with all the meds and everything, and I started lifting way to soon. That caused me a set back. If it wasnt for that, 2 weeks was enough time for me. That set back caused me additional weeks of pain. Just takie it easy.

I had my surgery with Dr. A  "Open".  Even though Dr. A does Open only, his cut is not the long traditonal cut.  I would say my cut is about the length of my pinky.   I was good after 3 weeks.   I was functional and was not in any serious pain.  Keep in mind it can be different for each person.  Starting weight and any other health issues will determine how you heal.   Best Wishes to you.  You are in good hands with Dr. A

Oh my gawd, I love Dr. A!  I have researched alot on the Doctors in the Area and I was kinda leaning toward John's Hopkins, just because of the reputation as an excellent hospital. I am so happy I changed my mind and went with Dr. A!

I have taken 4 weeks to recover and am getting more and more excited as the days count down!

His WLS support groups on Wednesdays from 12-1pm are the best I met some wonderful people who along with OH website have answered alot of my questions.
