Dating another bariatric patient

I am fairly new here so pardon me if this question has been asked before. Does anyone think that it would be easier to date a person who has had bariatric surgery in the past or will have it in the future? I just imagine that being with someone that is going through the same as you would bring you closer. I read a post where someone said that there partner was upset over wasting food but if you were to date a bariatric patient you definetly wouldn't be going to the buffet...lol.

I think dating is difficult for anyone after WLS.  Your emotions are all over the place and for most of us its the 1st time we've really focused on ourselves exclusively. I think it some ways its easier when you can make healthy food choices or do whatever crazy food rituals we do end up doing and not have to explain it to the person you are with.  Also when it comes to the extra skin issue its nice to have someone that understands you are a work in progress.

Becca and I both had surgery and being in a relationship with someone who has been through it does make it easier.  When i'm dumping or she is we know how it feels.  It's like being in a club that other people don't really understand.

It definately helps with the loose skin issue, cause I can only imagine how difficult it would be getting naked in front of someone who hasn't had it and don't really understand.

I may be wrong but why is it that it seems that people on here act like WLS PostOps are special or a member of some sort of group to be singled out?  Sure the first year it's great to have support while we learn to eat, get in vitamins and make exercise a part of our life.  WLS folks  are not the only people who strive to live healthy  and take supplements or even practice portion control.  I was obese, I lost weight and now I live healthier.  I feel great and I'm active.  When I opt to eat sweets and grease...I dump but that is my fault.   On dates, not one person has ever mentioned what I eat or how I eat it.

It is a club for me and Becca because we are the only people in our circle who understand what it is about cause we are the only ones who had WLS.    Other than that nothing is different in our lives, if it were we wouldn't be able to travel the world without having some extraordinary preparations.

I don't know about the singled out part, I don't want to be singled out, I prefer to blend in cause I don't need everyone knowing my bizness.

I agree WLS are not the only people who deal with trying to lose weight, **** most people in America, the world for that fact is on a diet.  But the loose skin issue is particularly a issue for WLS people much more so than non WLS people who lose weight.

I just think that when you are looking for someone you usually look for someone to you. I am in no way suggesting that you should only date other bariatric patients but simply asking the question.

I can definitely see how having a partner who's also had WLS would give you additional support and understanding in that area of your life, especially early in the process.  I think it's important to have things in common with your partner period, whether it's WLS or something else.  You need things that you can share with each other.

I have to say though, when I was a newbie, WLS was the center of my universe.  Now, the further out I get from surgery, WLS has become less of a focal point in my life.  There are many other things that have become a higher priority.  It's not that big of a deal any more.
