Hello All,

I know I haven't been on this sight much in the past year or so, but I need some help. I am having some issues with a cough that just will not go away. I have taken medicine over the counter and behind the counter but it just won't go away. My doctor has changed my medication which she thinks may be the cause of the cough because that was a side effect of the new medication. If that doesn't work she wants me to take an upper GI because she thinks it may be acid reflux. QUESTION: Is there a such thing as acid reflux after the bariatric surgery? Please advise if you have the knowledge. I just don't know what else to do at this point.

Please HELP if you have suggestions.

I have acid reflux. It went away right after having wls but came back later. I am over 3 1/2 years out and have to take nexium everyday. I think mines is genetics, my mom had stomach problems too. I dont know but I know if I dont take that pill my food/liquid starts coming back up. I have coughing at night, but was never told it was related to acid reflux, but I deal with quacks, so called army doctors, so I dont know for sure on that.

Well, that is good to know. I am going to try my pepcid AC tabs to see if that will help. For some reason I thought, since my stomach was reconstructed, I didn't have the acid in my stomach anymore to cause the acid reflux. I guess I am mis informed and will have to do some research. Thank you for your input. Greatly appreciated!!!!

No, not asthmatic, I had this issue 8 yrs ago and they never could figure out what was wrong with me. The doctor's treated it with inhalers and had me to take an upper GI  to see if I had acid reflux, which was horrible and nothing helped. Three months later the cough just went away. I am headed into my 3rd month of coughing. I just want this cough to go away. My lungs are clear and my blood is fine. I can't understand it. This has been going on for 2 1/2 months and the good part is I am not sick at all. This cough is just keeping me up at night and I cough like crazy during the day. I just want the cough to go away. Thanks for the response.

I don't want to scare you or anything .. but, if you haven't already have then test for cancer cells in your throat.   I have a co-worker that for years she coughed .... off and on ... on and off ... all day .. some days ... for years .. never thought anything of it ... Later turned out she had some kind of Cancer in her throat.  So, ask your Dr.  to at least rule it out.

I am not going to get scared but if this cough doesn't stop within the next week I will ask my doctor to check to rule that out. Thanks for your input, I will take notes. Thank you!!!

I certainly will because I have a cousin and an aunt (my aunt died in December from breathing issues) that has sarcoidosis, I am going to do some research on that to. Thanks for the input. You guys are really helping me.

No she didn't but, she is a very heavy woman.  Don't know if that had something to do with things or not.  Good Luck to you.  I will keep you in my prayers.
