New Post-op Tip of The Day
Do you like your teeth? Do you like having teeth? If you answered yes to those questions then this tip is for you.
WLS can wreck havoc on your teeth in several ways. One way is because we malabsorb so if we don't get enough calcium or don't take our calcium citrate at all (cuts eyes at a certain person, she knows who she is) then not only do our bones thin out but our teeth will crumble. We should be taking at least 1500 mgs of calcium citrate a day but only 500 or 600 mgs at a time because that's all that our bodies will absorb at one time.
Another way it can wreck our teeth is if you throw up a lot . Some people experience this and some people don't. There are meds that can help with nausea but with the band I don't think that will help but since I don't know what it feels like to have a band maybe a veteran lapbander can help us out in that area.
Another way is lack of dental hygeine and not going to your dentist twice a year for your cleanings and checkups. Let your dentist know that you've had surgery so they know to be proactive in your care so that you won't lose your teeth. Also add calcium rich foods to your diet. Go ahead and enjoy that
