I Don't Know Why This Irks Me So!

By the way, some States already have debit food stamp cards. Maybe the govt can require recipients of food stamps take a nutrition education course of some sort at a non-profit, and the non-profit can track selected families to see if there is a positive effect on the adults and children...

It's easy to make rules for the poor. Thank goodness there are wiser heads than ours that prevail or some of us would not have been born.

I posted an article about 2 weeks ago that is basically saying the same thing you are, relative to growing obesity in the USA and the causes...the conclusion that is now being drawn is that the problem cuts across racial lines. The problem of obesity (and the surrounding factors) are more related to status. Poor and uneducated Blacks, Latino, and White (women) in particular tend to be obese because of poor food choices, unavailability, lack of knowledge (what is a calorie, what's a fat gram, how do carbs effect you, how does one put together a nutritious meal...), lack of free time for activities/exercise, limited areas for children to play/exercise, stress of being poor... I say, set up a card table in the basement of a Church and offer a nutrition class there (The Black Church is one of the main harbors of Obesity.)

See -that's what I DON'T do - only buy fruits and veggies.  I do buy her candy - because I don't want her to feel deprived or as if it's something she can't have.  That's what my mom did to me and the FIRST thing I did when I got on my own in college was GORGE on the things she had been so controlling over.

In my opinion - if I let her choose now and work with her to guide her decision process - she can make better choices on her own.

AT least I HOPE I get that right..... LOL!!!

i completely understand.  I'm still a big chick but I'm working on it and and I will admit I stare in shock and amazement when I see how some others eat.  Then I just shake my headd and remember that was me only a year and a half ago.

I understand where you are coming from... but even as a fat girl I didn't do that.

I know I am wrong for this but to me if you are getting food stamps you shouldn't be able to buy crap! Spend your own dayumm money on it dammit..LOL

I know I know. I'm not sure if it varies by state but I know there are certain foods you cannot buy using WIC here in Illinois
