So I went to the grocery store today.. completely forgot it was the 1st! I hate shopping during that time

I was looking around in folks carts, all I see frozen pizzas, capri sun's, chicken fingers, hash, chef boyare dee everything, t.v. dinners and all this other bullshiot! No meats or freash vegetables... just processed food in cartons and cans! And I am looking at the folks buying the food *smh* I ain't even going to comment but you can only imagine..one female had 2 carts full of cardboard food stood in the middle while eating a bag of M&M's..I was done.... I don't know why but seeing that really irks the hell outta me!

I really wish our people would make better food choices... I really do... I'm saying you are in here with a food stamp card, why can't you buy stuff to cook a real meal for you family?? Ain't like you got THAT much more to do.. Canned spagetti, really?? How hard is it to cook at least that meal?...I know when I was on gov't aid, I COOKED for my kids! I didn't believe in buying all that processed mess! I felt it was the LEAST I could do for my children...plus I am cheap female from hell, always looking for ways to stretch the dollar..lol

I seriously found myself in line getting angered by what I saw folks buying! It's not like buying things like that saves you money either...I just don't get it.. I really don't..Maybe the gov't should make it so folks can't buy all that mess with food stamps..make it so they can ONLY purchase healthy foods..It could possbily save some health care money... I don't know..all I know is it really irked me!

Just had to vent...LOL

I agree Ro, but I think a better question would be why is it so much more expensive to eat healthy?  When I was in college & on food stamps, I made those funds stretch as far as possible... and sadly, getting a 3 for $1.00 deal on Chef Boyardee is  much more tempting than buying ingredients to make the spaghetti myself.

Here's the thing it's not like that one little can REALLY fills you up...why not spend some money on some hamburger meat and make a couple of meals that will last you a few days?

I think it is more expensive to buy all that other b.s....plus we are talkin' about feeding your family.. I think it is just crazy!

Double Oh I got the shock of my life when I decided to go over 1000 miles to attend college at the age of 35. I was right in a campus apartment after 3 mths in a dorm and had to go on foodstamps because my workstudy job couldn't support me.

Since I had worked for 17 yrs prior to college and lived alone I ate GOOD. Although obese, I always held steady at 221-230 lbs. I liked too many goodies to get smaller and was perfectly content. During that time I did however pay for more expensive foods and as I say ate very well balanced meals.

Once on foodstamps I THOUGHT that I was going to continue my good eating on $120.00's a month. I found that the 120 was JUST enough to get my staple foods, and IF there was a sale, enough meat for a week. I thought I'd starve and had to figure out some survival skills QUICK.

This is no lie when I say that I started taking my $120.00's and buying the healthiest staples that I could afford. and Fresh fruit and veggies. That stuff was cheaper in Oklahoma. Pop was out. Pepsi was a treat when I went to my Uncles home in the city.

So with having the good stuff for my staples it was either be a vegetarian or figure out a way to eat meat. Gurrrl I had to hike a mile daily to the lake to catch my meat. Yes for 2 years straight I ate fish on a daily basis. Thank God that the different varieties of fish have different tastes so I didnt suffer too much.

It's a wonder that I even lived through that.
Whyyyyy did yall just let me tell this story. I can't even remember the point that I was trying to get acrossed.

Naomi I buy food stamps from 4 girls every month and to be honest I dont give a flying fck what they use the money for. they can go and buy crack if they want to..lol..
It is better to be motivated by the souls hunger rather than the egos greed.

Gurrrl...you should be ashamed of yourself...those kids are probably starving and the mom is probably doing something bad with those food stamps....psstt..hey you know of anybody else wanna sell some food stamps? Just kidding...this is so funny......but seriously I went grocery shopping this weekend and spent about $170 dollars only healthy stuff and some 100 calorie ice cream bars...but hey  you CAN eat healthy on food stamps too if someone tried to stretch their dollars....

As a former classroom teacher, I always worked a part-time job. I had just me, no family but if I wanted more then the salary wasn't cutting it. I worked at a grocery store one summer and cried because of the mis use of my tax dollars, and yes I had to pay taxes, no refund for me. I cried one day about that unhealthy crap and the misuse of my hard earned  tax money.
It's a set up by the government to keep our people unhealthy because they don't empower them to do better. They can track the recipients buying junk but chooses not to correct that type of behavior. We know damn well that they should offer nutrition classes and they should have to submit receipts to their caseworkers. They use some type of debit card so it can show every freaking transaction.
