New Post-op Tip of The Day
Exercise.....yeah I said that word and yes we need it. Wls will cause you to lose weight without exercise but really think about it. What good did it do to have a life saving surgery but you don't protect your heart by exercising it or protect your bones by doing weight bearing exercises or preserve your sanity by releasing some steam and releasing endorphins
(nature's feel good hormone) by exercising? Exercise will help you to tone but it will not keep you from having saggy skin, of course that is an individual thing. I've seen many posts asking about sagging skin and really no one can answer that question for you because we all are different and our skin reacts differently. I will say that people who strength train tend to be more toned.
Your exercise doesn't have to be elaborate but you do have to move. When you first start out, you should start out slow if you haven't exercised before. Walking is a very good exercise and just doing 30 minutes 3 days a week is a great benefit. Yoga, Pilate's, weights or stretch bands can help you to tone and strengthen. Swimming exercises every muscle in your body at the same time and it also tones without putting stress on your joints. If you suffer from a chronic illness, arthritis, joint problems, then water aerobics or water walking is just what the Dr. ordered. These exercises use large muscles without putting stress on your joints and will get your heart rate up.When you are up to more of a challenge, then try a spin class, step aerobics class, dance aerobics and free weights
There are ways to sneak exercise into your everyday life, like taking the stairs instead of the elevator, do not park close to the door, do squats during commercials, do biceps and triceps curls during commercials also. Dance while cleaning your house or cooking. These little changes burns calories and add up. Do not overlook this important step in your wls journey.
