New Post-op Tip of The Day
Let's talk protein shakes. I know some of y'all are saying and even screaming "I don't want to !!!!" You have to spice up your protein shakes in order to make them taste better and get your protein in. Be careful when you're spicing your shake up for taste that you don't add too many calories, sugars or carbs. Some ways to add some flavor to your protein shake
1) SF flavored syrups, like the kind that Starbucks uses (you can find them at Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Walmart) they are usually in the coffee section.
2) SF Crystal Light or Walmart brand of drink mixes
3) SF jello or pudding ( just a little bit can change the flavor of your shake) You could get the flavor of strawberry cheesecake with some sf cheesecake pudding and a couple of strawberries in your vanilla protein shake.
4) Fruit can add flavor to your shake but follow your NUT's and surgeon's plan first and some of them don't allow fruit. Also realize that fruit have natural sugar so there is a possibility of dumping. Look for fruit that have very low sugar in it.
5) I have been known to put a little bit of sf peanut butter in my chocolate protein shake and think I have a reeses pb shake.
6) Soy milk will add more protein to your shake but if you find that you are at a stall or you're losing slowly it could be the milk in the protein shake, so you may need to go back to making them with water.
7) Adding protein powder to hot liquids is tricky because it will ball up and be grainy. First put your protein powder in a cup and add room temperature water to it and make a paste, stirring all of the lumps out of it and then add it to your hot chocolate, hot tea or coffee.
You can like a protein shake. Bottoms up.

I never thought of mixing my protein shakes with water. Does that really change much except for the calorie count? I only use soy milk so I just wonder. Neenaj:
WOW, I just tried the soy milk and cheese cake pudding protein shake...WOW, same for putting it in my coffee, but mixing it w/water first.
I guess my partner is right when she told me to humble myself and learn from the people who have experience on the Board; do less writing and more reading.
