Own ALL aspects of your life!

I was talking with a friend the other day and got on the topic of how folk relate to situations.  Sometimes folk let other folk guide how they respond or react to things, let folk force them into situations they would rather not be in, and let folk drive how they feel about themselves....... folk get TOO concerned about what OTHERS see, think and feel.

Now - while this is not true of ALL of us - there are SOME of us that, if not totally, in some way, shape, form or fashion let the actions/thoughts/opinions of others get to us.  We end up doing or saying things we later regret or have to clean up as a result.  One thing I will say of ME - before WLS, I was concerned and really mindful of the perception and impression others had of me and I spent a LOT of effort and energy trying to do whatever it was I could to placate them to make sure their thoughts were what I wanted them to be.

And that's crazy!!!  You cannot make another grown mofo think they way you want them to!  They won't do what you want, say what you want, feel what you want - you're wasting your time.  You can't let someone else's force become your driver.

So - what am I saying?  OWN your life!  Do YOU and that's IT!  And do it in ALL aspects of your life.  You had WLS to take ownership of your physical health - own your mental health as well!  No one in this life has power over you.  You have total control over the way you react in situation, the information you release to people, the things you say, the things you do.  Everything in your life is YOUR decision - and yours alone.  Just as you made the decision for WLS without anyone and in a lot of cases, IN SPITE OF someone - so are the other decisions in your life.  OWN THEM!!!!

why am I posting this?  After my convo, I thought it was an interesting topic and perspective - my friend commented that I am one of those folk that live life 'sans regret' - without regret.  There is a freedom in owning and purposefully doing what it is YOU want to do - so take a leap of faith and try it!  Do YOU regardless of others - at the end of the day, it's YOU who have to live with you, right?

Have a great day people!!!!

I agree  And since we are getting all philosophical can I please add learn how to be your own friend. Some people need to constantly be entertained by someone and they don't care who. And this is not healthy. If you do not learn how to be good to yourself by yourself you are opening the door to let negative people into your life. You are more apt to keep these people around even if they are draining the life out of you for fear of being alone. You cannot attract quality people into your life if you are surrounding yourself by negative people.  I agree with MM WLS is not just about the physical it is about the mental as well. And if before/after surgery you find that you need to seek help there is no shame in doing that.  And sometimes that help needs to come from a PROFESSIONAL. There is only so much advice your friends can provide you. They can't get to the root of the problem like a professional can. So take advantage of what is out there. That's just my .02 cents on this subject as well.
