OT: Wednesday Morning Bird Quiz

I'm chiming in, it looks like our state bird, a red cardinal.

good guess virtly...(i thought someone would probably say "Northern Cardinal")...but this mornings bird does not have the black "mask", or the "crest" on top of the head.

(this bird is also the state bird of indiana.  along with, illinois, kentucky, north carolina, ohio, and west virginia...and of course your state.  more states have this bird as "state bird" than any other.)

This bird is indeed the Summer Tanager.  (I think this is Faith's first victory...lol)

As a birdwatcher...I long for the weather to change so that this beautiful bird will re-emerge from it's winter home down in Central and South America.  They are a beautiful bird...and the only "all red" bird that we have in the United States.  (Well...as Hershey said...it's the male that is all red, and it's only all red during the summer months.)

 Hmph....not even an honorable mention, lol.

DLD...this bird was for you.  You told me last week you wanted something "warm and tropical"...and I could think of no better bird than the "Summer Tanager"...(It's in the tropics...and it's also here in the States.)
