My first Appointment with Dr. Schweitzer
Shani aka Star Jones had DS with Schweitzer. I had RnY with him. Don't know much about DS, but I was very satisfied with my surgery. My hubby also had RnY successfully with him. Hit me on the backline if you want to discuss it further. I will say that Dr. S. is the best and I will stand by that. You made a good choice with him!

Hello Kiya
Shani aka Star Jones is the resident DS expert on BAF. Hopefully she'll be around soon to answer your question.
If I had a higher BMI, I would have picked DS hands down. Hell, if my insurance had covered it, I would have picked it! The two surgeries are not that bad, but I'm a RNYer. Try asking the question on the DS board...but just remember not to go into the light There you should find plenty of information! Good Luck!

I don't know why I can't pull up the whole post. My computer must be trippin.
I had my DS with Dr. S in November and couldn't be more pleased. If you have researched the DS compared to the RNY your reasons for continuing on should still be the same.I personally would opt for the two stage DS. Since you have a higher BMI you need to maximize your weight loss in the "window of oppertunity" and the DS have the highest percentage of success for both losing the weight AND more importantly keeping it off. There are many people on the DS board that had high BMIs and had the procedure done in this fashion. You could ask more questions over there with other people's expieriences. I would phrase it in a way to attract DS in 2 parts patients so you can get thier opinions. Dr. S might feel that the time that you are under anestheia would be too long to do both the sleeve and the intestinal portion at your current state of health.
Feel free to contact me and ask me anything. I wish you luck in whichever surgery you choose. Dr. S is a great surgeon and I have 0 complaints.
