I had my surgical consult with Dr. Schweitzer on yesterday.  It went well.  I had went in wanting the duodenal switch which he said I could get but would have to get in 2 stages because of my BMI.  He told me to think about it or I could just get the RNY.  I think I am going to opt for the RNY because I don't want to get 2 surguries.  Has anyone else expericenced this and what decision did they make.  I have researched the RNY and I know it would work for me.

Is he the only surgeon that you have considered or have you been to others?

That's good that the ball is starting to roll for you with your decision to have weight loss surgery, but I have never heard of such a thing where you are to have two surgeries. You do your research, ask for help and guidance from the Lord and pray about which surgery you want to have. I had the RNY done on Nov 15, 2008 and I started off weighing in at 275 lbs and now I'm down to 224 lbs, but only you know what is right you You. If you need anymore help or have any more questions, you can always email me.
You have a blessed day

My best advice would be to research extensively both surgeries long term results and dietary constraints and see what would be best suited for you. Becuase in the long run, that is what is most important. I say go visit both boards and ask what folks experience has been. Also, ask your doctor which he believes would be best for you considering your immediate health concerns. Research, research, research... and best of luck to you! :)

Never heard of the DS in 2 stages thing.  RNY is a valid choice - for me 200lbs down and off ain't no lie!

HOWEVER - I suggest you see at least one more surgeon about the DS - or visit the DS board here on OH for more info.

there are no WRONG choices - only UN-INFORMED ones!!!!

I don't just have issues, I have subscriptions!  I'm saving on the newsstand price.......
